October 2022

Hello Kainaatis!

The first satellite, Sputnik, was launched on October 4, 1957. To commemorate that, there is an International Space Week every year, starting October 4-11. We want to use this opportunity to announce a new Kainaat Studios initiative where we help schools create and develop astronomy clubs. We will be working closely with three schools in Lahore but will create a "Kainaati Club Kit" that will serve as a guide to other schools as well. More on it in the coming months. Kainaat Studios will also be present at the annual Lahore Science Mela (LSM) on October 29-30. And, don't forget to check out the spectacular views of Jupiter along with Mars and Saturn this month.

Enjoy the countless number of stars surrounding the Bubble Nebula & M52 star cluster from the light and dust polluted sky of Rawalpindi. This beautiful image was taken by Suhaib Ahmed, using his William Optics 71GT telescope and a ZWO ASI1600 mm pro camera. He used multiple filters to create this stunning result.

Moon, Planets and Constellations

Look out for the brief marriage of the moon with Jupiter on October 8, around 11 pm. The two objects are still millions of kilometers apart from each other but appear next to each other from the perspective of earthlings. Some degrees to the right of the pair is Saturn - a pale yellow star-like object. To the left of the Jupiter-moon pair is the bright, orange-coloured Mars!
