Howey Mansion Tour, July 22nd

Join OFA for a self-guided tour of the historic Howey Mansion located in Howie-in-the-Hills. Come see the progress as they work to restore the Howey Mansion Estate to its original grandeur. Experience a brief history of the area, as you tour the Mansion and grounds.

William J. Howey purchased 60,000 acres in Lake County by 1920, founding the town that was to bear his name five years later.  Following his previous formula for success practice in Polk County, he planted citrus on the majority of his newly acquired acreage. In 1924, he and his wife, Mary Hastings Howey, completed the plans for their permanent home in Howey-in-the-Hills, and by the end of 1927, the show place was finished, furnished and occupied. The home was built in Mediterranean Revival style.

*Due to its historic nature, The Howey Mansion Estate is not ADA accessible. Stairs are involved and there is not an elevator.

Spots are limited. Register TODAY! Interested in sponsoring this event? Opportunities available!

Welcome New Gold Member: BBM Structural

Do you know what a Structural Engineer does?

A multi-disciplinary team of people work together to realize every building. One of OFA’s core missions is to educate the public about construction and architecture. The building code requires all buildings to be scientifically engineered to protect the public from collapse. The structural engineer takes the lead in this responsibility and their expertise extends into all building types, sites, roads, bridges, and environments that may not even be visible.

Since many people may have never heard of a structural engineer, we asked one of our new sponsors, BBM Structural Engineers, to tell us about their profession, education and what structural engineers do. They also shared some of their special abilities and experiences. Please enjoy our interview with them linked here.
