Creativity

Anne and Paula made some really cute Valentine Decor.

Anne made the heart of buttons to brighten up the door outside her mom's new place. The heart is made from a whole lot of red buttons from SewGreen.

Paula put together this cheerful and bright heart of roses using a thrifted wreath, ribbon from SewGreen and a few dollar store roses.

We'd love to see what you make!

Sustainability

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability is the "ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level". We often think of it in terms of our natural resources. As individuals, we can practice sustainable behaviors to maintain a healthy body and mind. Sewing is a sustainable skill: Once you learn how to sew, you can sew for a lifetime. In addition to being a sustainable skill, the practice of sewing helps to conserve our natural resources if we use reclaimed fabric and mend our clothes rather than throw them away and buy new. Learn to sew at SewGreen. We offer a variety of clubs and classes for everyone!

Hints and Hacks

Sewing Gauge

The sewing gauge may come in different colors and material (some are plastic) They are 6 inches long and have markings for measurements in inches and centimeters, and a small (typically red) slider. It is similar to a caliper as it is used to measure the distance between two points.  Use the gauge to measure a hem before sewing, measure locations and size of button holes, mark a seam allowance, and measure pleats.

For example, in the picture here, you see the slider is at 5/8 inch from the top of the gauge and a blue mark is made to measure a perfect 5/8 inch seam allowance.
