 Ted Talks...

The night of February 5th at the Bluthaup showroom in Greenwich, CT. was an evening of Ted's stories focusing on: the luxury market, advertising, the

doyennes of style, books, Hollywood and Lord Alex Hawke. Kathryn Minckler and The Luxury Marketing Council  hosted the entertaining event and Diane's Books was on hand to help Ted with his book signing.

Star Gazing

"Palm Beach was very good times with a few bad ones to keep me honest. This obviously was one of the good ones. Palm Beach Doyenne and famous Broadway producer (West Side Story to Spiderman) the divine Terry Allen Kramer and her handsome sidekick, the irrepressible George Hamilton. I told him about the time I saw him climb out of his white Rolls Royce convertible at the Beverly Hills Hotel. An image I've never forgotten..."

Inside OVERKILL

Bell, Books & Thoughts

The Fate of a Character: Stay or go?

"The latter. Let's be clear. Sometimes there are circumstances which determine the fate of characters. In the first book, HAWKE, Alex falls in love. But when I was writing book #2 (ASSASSIN), I knew I needed to introduce a new romantic interest as Fleming always did. I couldn't have Alex dump his love interest or she him as it would make each of them look bad. I pondered. I then called my lovely editor Emily at Simon & Schuster.

Me: "Here's an idea. What if he marries her?"

She: "Don't be ridiculous. He can NEVER get married."

Me: "Right. But what if she doesn't survive the wedding? She dies. She takes a sniper bullet as they emerge from the chapel."

She: "Ted, that's horrible!"

Me: "I know, Emily, but is it good horrible or bad horrible?"
She: "It's GREAT horrible. DO IT!"

And that's how it works.

Words to live by...

"...good fiction has the ability to allow people to escape into an

imaginary world where drama can be bigger than life."
