Hello Kern River Valley, Fall has officially arrived, but it still feels like the summer heat is with us a little bit longer. I am ready for the cooler weather and the changing of the seasons myself. October is a busy month for your chamber, at next week’s general membership meeting we will be honoring our Business and Organization of the Year for 2024. The nominations from the public are in and they have spoken, this year’s honorees will be Whitewater Voyages and the Kern Valley Art Association; please come out to the meeting and share your time with us as we honor those worthy of this recognition. We will honor them for what they do and how they do it to for the wellbeing of the Kern River Valley. On October 17th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm Ms. Karrie Bunting will be hosting a Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce Workshop at the senior center in Lake Isabella. The event is “The Greatest Challenges Facing Kern Valley Businesses Today, A Round Table Discussion”. Your chamber will be hosting a number of business-oriented events beginning this month carrying through 2025. Please watch our Facebook postings for additional information on these fantastic and beneficial gatherings as we attempt to do are part in assisting our valley businesses with the continued challenges we face. Your chamber is busy working on our annual Christmas Parade which will take place the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Our Grand Marshall for this year’s Christmas Parade will be our Congressman Mr. Vince Fong, please join us for the annual event. If you have a team, organization or just want to have a float in the parade please contact Liz at the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce and sign up as we would love to have as many floats as possible for this annual family event. Also, in the month of November your chamber will be accepting nominations for our annual Man and Woman of the Year Awards. This honor is for those individuals who continue to go above and beyond the call for the benefit of our valley. This is an award which is not taken lightly, we feel it is an amazing recognition to those who represent who we are in the Kern River Valley. If you have an individual who you feel is deserving of this award please write a small statement of why and what they have done to obtain this recognition and get it to Liz in the Chamber of Commerce office before November 15, 2024. I am sorry for being a couple of days late with the president’s message, it’s been a rough couple of weeks for all of us. I just want to let Robbie Miller and Ms. Jennifer know they are in my thoughts and prayers and they deal with losing one of their personal dogs. Dallas Bartholomew Miller, you were one heck of good boy. Everyone, please stay safe / stay positive and remember we live in one of the greatest small towns there is. Fred Clark, President Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce |

The 2024 Isabella Lake Fishing Derby was fantastic! But the 2025 derby is already shaping up to be an even bigger event. Larger prize pool. Exciting prizes. There is great news brewing that we can't quite share... For the latest, visit the derby Facebook page or derby website at the links below |
In order to ensure that the angling public has an enjoyable experience during the fishing season and around derby time, your chamber volunteers raise thousands of trout locally to significantly supplement the annual DCFW planting. |
The penned fish are fed three times per day, rain, or snow, or shine, for five months or longer by a team of over 20 volunteers! There are four feeding times still open for volunteers. For more information, please send your name and email and phone number to office@kernrivervalley.com so that the volunteer in charge, Fred Roach, can reach out to you. |

From an article, "Newsom Signs Bill Offering Enhanced Trespass Protections for Property Owners" by the California Apartment Association: "Under current law (Penal Code Section 602), property owners who have problems with trespassers can submit a no trespass letter, commonly referred to as a 602 letter, to local law enforcement. These letters, once filed, remain in effect for 30 days, giving law enforcement the mandate to remove trespassers from the designated property." --------------------------------------------- But did you know that effective January 1, 2024, property owners can extend their 602 Letters, also referred to as No Trespass Authorization letters, for a full year and up to three years for permanently closed properties. Without authorization allowing action by law enforcement, and their subsequent removal from the property, after 30 days the trespassers are considered to have established tenancy, whether they have a lease or not. In turn, the eviction of tenants is handled as a civil matter through the court system. Some counties, such as Placer County, has an established program for citizens to file 602 Letters. The City of Bakersfield does not describe a detailed program, but does have a downloadable No Trespass Form Letter that can be filed with the Bakersfield Police Department. The Kern County Sheriff's Office maintains a Business Registry Program to let responding officers know who to contact in the event of a situation involving your business. While not a 602 Letter, registering your business can be a great aid to law enforcement. Not registered? Do so here now! Businesses must update their registration annually. |
