August 2024

Hello dear art enthusiast,

The past few months have brought a lot and kept me busy. I am sharing some work again that recently passed my easel.

Assignments

A large commission was officially unveiled at Radboud University and I recently completed several portraits for another commission. I can finally share the finished pieces for you.

Teaching

Meanwhile, in addition to the painting evenings on Wednesdays, I have found a small group of participants for portrait painting classes that I will be teaching.

And I get to start teaching three groups in Schijndel at Spectrum. An accommodation for a variety of activities, with an emphasis on culture and well-being.

Autumn

In the coming months, I will get to work on 6 paintings of 6 grandchildren. It's a big commission that I will do in 3 phases. Two portraits each time. Hope to be able to show something of it soon.

Own work

During a very relaxing summer holiday (1 week Drenthe and 2 weeks east and south-east France), besides time with the family I also found space to draw and paint something ‘en plein air’ every now and then.

Hope you also had a great summer,

Enjoy the scroll and looking forward to hearing from you,

With kind regards,

Frank

PORTRAIT COMMISSION - Radboud University

Before the summer, I was able to complete a portrait for Radboud University in Nijmegen. It was a commission for the Faculty of Tax Law and involved a portrait to mark the retirement of Professor G.T.K. (Gerard) Meussen.

Oil on canvas, 50 x 60 cm

PORTRAIT COMMISSION - Gift for a baptism

This recently produced portrait is now hanging on a wall somewhere in Sicily. It was requested just before the summer on the occasion of a baptism by a client from ‘s-Hertogenbosch. While it was still wet it went on the plane with him. I had specially designed a box for transport which would keep the panel free from damage.

PORTRAIT COMMISSION - Sisters

This work may already be familiar to you. I have been working on it for quite some time but this one and a few others from the same commission, are really finally finished. It was a difficult assignment because they are relatives and I therfore know these sisters rather well. Soon after these are dry to the touch, they will go to the framer and then to their final destination. A home familiar to me fortunately, where I can still see them regularly.

LANDSCAPE - EN PLEIN AIR

‘En-plein-air’ or still-life drawing and painting is a ‘must’ if you want to develop as a painter. you can get very far without it but I notice myself how much you learn and most importantly, how much more you perceive than through photographs alone. Your eye becomes more and more sensitive to nuances as you paint. Well I have a really good lens on my SLR and my Iphone doesn't take bad pictures either but I see more and more where photography falls far short of capturing what your eye does see, with training.

Seeing more means more avenues for a painter's personal interpretation of reality. It makes the work much more interesting and profound.
