Today, the nearest Sunday to Armistice Day (11 November, when the First World War formally ended in 1918) we keep Remembrance Sunday, with King and Country commemorating and praying for all those who have fallen in war, and we honour their memory with the church’s highest act of worship, the Holy Eucharist. We also pray for peace and reconciliation in the many current trouble-spots in the world, not least the Holy Land and Ukraine: The world wars are fading into history, but armed conflict, tragically is, still with us. |
|
|
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM Today our Solemn Requiem Mass incorporates an Act of Remembrance, with the traditional two minutes’ silence at 11am as, with King and country, we commemorate and honour all those who have fallen in war. |

QUIZ NIGHT our fish and chips quiz night at 7 for 7.30pm on Saturday 18 November is always a popular and fun evening. Tickets are available today from Margaret Quinney for £15 per person and free for under 12s! You may order a vegetarian option, or a sausage, instead of fish. Bring your own drinks. |

HARVEST thank you to all who donated in various ways to our Harvest Appeal for the Welcome Centre on St Mary’s Road a few weeks ago. The goods have now been delivered together with a cheque for £392.50. |

JOSÉ, MARIA & HOLLY moved last Thursday from Ilford to Ripon, in North Yorkshire, where Jose has secured work and a house after being granted refugee status in the UK 2 weeks ago. The family, who we shall greatly miss, asked for their thanks and love to be passed on to the church family at St Mary’s. Please continue to pray for them at this time of transition and change. |

THE HOLY LAND We are collecting to support the work of Christian Aid who are providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the terrible conflict in the land of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. You can use the card machine or give by cash/cheque by placing it in the specially marked box at the back of church. Please be as generous as you can. In addition to this please pray each day for a peaceful resolution to this conflict. |

REGULAR GIVING Giving to fund the ministry of the Church is an essential part of our Christian faith. Please, if you don’t already, would you consider giving a regular amount? No amount is too small. Using our parish giving scheme is easy and you are in full control (and Margaret Quinney will be pleased to help you if needed). One-off donations can be made using the Parish Giving Scheme, or with the card machine at the back of church, or by putting cash/cheques in the offering plate. Cheques should be made payable to St Mary’s Ilford PCC. |
