Dear Round-Up Readers, March kicks off with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day is this week, when the world turns its attention to women! As for the other 11 months and the actual progress toward equality…ForbesWomen editor Maggie McGrath writes skeptically that while Women's History Month and IWD started for legit reasons in recent years "have become over-commercialized. So many brands have jumped on the IWD bandwagon that last year, two U.K-based writers/consultants set up a Twitter bot to respond to the barrage of women’s empowerment posts by revealing the gender pay gap at the organization posting the message." Truthfully, while I do feel women are making great progress in the hotel industry—based on over 350 interviews and stories in hertelier’s two-year history––when a study like the one from last week reveals that there are no female CEOs at the major hotel companies, it tells me that, although we are making progress, there is still work to be done! This fuels our resolve to continue to inspire women in hospitality, share their stories, insights, and achievements. And we are not alone! Hertelier is thrilled to announce exciting new partnerships with eight signature sponsors who are supporting us on our mission. The Round-Up this month is sponsored by Extended Stay America, and in the months to come, you can look forward to seeing content created with (in alphabetical order): David Collins Studio, Hyatt Hotels, IHG, JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group, Loews Hotels & Co, Thynk, Red Roof, and Roomza. The first, is a "herstory" interview with Loews, Monica Xuereb. These organizations care about women all 12 months of the year, and share our mission to see gender equality in hospitality, sooner than later! Now, on to the news from the week!
