Open for Visitors

This coming weekend the doors of my studio at Eramboo in Terrey Hills will be open for visitors as part of the Pittwater Artists Trail and Sydney Craft Week. Tricia Trinder, Samantha Mackie, Nicola Woodcock and I will be setting up a working show and exhibition - which means we will have works for sale and works in progress, but mainly we’ll be available for conversations about our work. All four of us have been exploring a theme in our recent practice - the nature of making - what drives us, how we make our art, and the diversity of the materials we use. We will be demonstrating our techniques, exhibiting, and welcoming visitors to the beautiful setting of Eramboo with tea and cake.

Recently the subject of trees and forests has hardly been out of sight or mind for me. After reading "The Hidden Life of Trees" by Peter Wohlleben and discovering a whole new dimension of possibilities about trees communicating and feeling, it is hard to look at trees and bushland with the same eyes. Exploring the dry river beds in Namatjira country in the West MacDonnell Ranges, the resilience (and wisdom maybe?) of the river red gums was intriguing and beautiful. So, trees and rivers (both running and dry) and gorges will be the focus of new work. I will be looking for the essence of the riverbed landscapes and the stories laid down in the land by rivers and bushlands that cross the country.

The photo above was taken at beautiful Ellery Creek in the West MacDonnell Ranges. I've travelled to this region twice this year and am planning to return again in September 2019, this time with a small group of like minded travellers. My previous career as a travel professional, combined with recent experiences in the Northern Territory and current artistic practice seems to combine well and point me in the direction of hosting an 'accompanied adventure'. The itinerary is in final stages of development and I'm accepting early expressions of interest from subscribers - please email me if you would like to be kept in the loop!

Thank you for your continued interest in my art.
