Let's be honest. The recent debate was terrible. Biden looked old. Trump lied. If we look beyond the candidates' debate performances to the issues that effect most Americans there are huge differences between them. If Biden wins he'll continue to do what he's been doing: creating jobs, fighting climate change, building infrastructure, and supporting our NATO allies. On the other hand we have Project 2025, a 180 day, detailed, radical plan to change America by firing 20,000 non-partisan civil servants and replacing them with MAGA loyalists who will serve the interests of one man, not the public. When I recently discussed this with a Trump supporter her reaction was. "That's how you drain the swamp!" "No" I responded. "Replacing non-partisan civil servants with Trump loyalists is creating the swamp!" |

Project 2025 does its best to hide its extremist agenda behind benign language. For example: "Healthcare and Social Security: Protecting seniors and making healthcare more affordable." Who could argue with that?
But the devil is in the details of HOW this is done. The plan privatizes Medicare by forcing everyone into a private Medicare Advantage plan when they sign up. It cuts out much of the ACA, takes away the restrictions on pre-existing conditions, as well as keeping your kids on your healthcare until age 26. It cuts access to contraception, and IVF, and cuts Medicare's ability to negotiate drug pricing. The list goes on and on. This is definitely the billionaires' and corporate America's dream of how to make a ton of public money while "Protecting seniors and making healthcare more affordable." It certainly isn't the average American's. One of the most chilling aspects of Project 2025 is that most of it can be implemented without having to go to Congress where it would never be able to pass. It's a 180 plan to blitz the government with new regulations so all of MAGA's priorities can become reality without having to deal with the headache of voting and our democratic processes. |

The plan is so radical that even Trump knows that if people find out about it it will hurt his election chances. So he's pretending he knows nothing about it although he also says he doesn't like some things in it. (Which means he knows about it. But that's the kind of nonsense we've come to expect from Trump.) |
The reality is that 82% of the authors, editors, and directors of Project 2025 are former Trump officials including the leading candidate to be his Chief of Staff. Trump denying knowledge of this plan is like someone peeing on your leg and telling you it's raining. We can see what's going on and we need to stop it. The only way to do that is to win this election and prevent these radical extremists from taking power. Democracy is being tested. We're being tested. Time to get involved! |

Stony Point Dems July Meeting |
We had a great turnout for our July meeting. July is usually a quiet month before the election work really kicks in, however, we had the privilege of meeting and getting to know the three candidates vying for a newly created Family Court judge position. We also committed to building our committee to full strength. If you're interested in leaning more about this please contact us at spdc@stonypointdemocrats.org. Our group discussion revolved around Project 2025, the Rose Memorial Library expansion proposal, and the lack of a town plan for our Letchworth property. Feel free to join us at our next meeting. |

Haverstraw African American Connection |
One of the nice things about the Stony Point Democratic Committee is the friendships we create. A few of us got together this week to eat lunch at Haverstraw's Emeline Park and visit the Beacon of Hope statue and Freedom mural. This little park created through the leadership of Ginny Norfleet founder of the Haverstraw African American Connection and Mike Kohut, Mayor of the village of Haverstraw is truly a gem. |
