Dear All,

An inspiring evening with Cathy McGowan!

Guests who came along to our Drouin Politics in the Pub last Thursday were inspired by the enthralling stories, energy and courage of Cathy McGowan AO.

Cathy spoke of her time as the first Independent Member for Indi, and how at all times she put community at the centre of her decision making.

She explained how as an Independent, she got things done for her electorate - including getting approval for over 50 new mobile phone towers in black spots, funding for a Headspace and mental health services, and improving public transport across the electorate.

Not constrained by party politics, Cathy, and her successor Helen Haines MP, have been able to focus on issues that are vital to their community.

Cathy advocated for listening to the community via Kitchen Table Conversations  and community engagement, as these were the key to building her platform in her first term in Canberra. Voices for Monash are now mirroring this formula for success and are conducting Kitchen Table Conversations and listening events all over the Monash electorate.

Following her two successful campaigns and time in Canberra Cathy now travels the country connecting with local communities who want better political representation.

Cathy emphasised that the community have a vital role to play in achieving better representation; “Only with the community doing the work will community representation come to be” she said.

The event was livestreamed via our facebook page, and we invite you all to have a watch!

Kitchen Table Conversations

Make sure you have your say!

We are running a number of Kitchen Table Conversations across the electorate, to collect information about the issues that are important to our community in the lead up to the next election.

To gain a comprehensive overview, we need people from all parts and all demographics of the Monash community to help with Kitchen Table Conversations! make sure your voice is heard and organise to host a KTC!

You just need to get together around 4 - 10 friends, family, work colleagues or members of a community group for a couple of hours at your home, a cafe, pub or any other venue, to discuss how you want to be represented. A member of our team will come and help facilitate the conversation and take notes.

If you are interested in hosting a KTC or would like to find out more, please click here, and one of our team will be in touch!

Voices for Monash acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands on which we meet and work, including the lands of the Boonwurrung, Bunurong and Gunai Kurnai people,  and other Aboriginal lands and nations within this country. We pay our respects to the elders of these lands, past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
