BESA Fall Quarter Meetings The last BESA meeting for this quarter: Thursday, Dec 1st from 4:15-5:15 pm BESA outreach is excited to announce the Adopt-a-Family event! Please refer to this google doc for details. Donations for the list of food and gift items that we need to provide for the family will be accepted. Donations will be collected in GBSF 2303. BESA Student Seminar Series The student seminar series is an amazing opportunity to practice your research presentations, such as your qualifying exam or conference presentation, in a low-key friendly environment. It is a great way to share your research with your colleagues and get valuable feedback from your peers. If you are interested in presenting your research to your peers (virtually), please email our Program Advising Chair: Tanishq Abraham. BESA Health Fireside Chat The BESA Health Officers are excited to invite you all to a fireside chat on mental health in graduate school and research on December 5th at 11 am in GBSF 2202. This comprehensive website includes the most up-to-date university policies, guidelines and protocols to minimize exposure to COVID-19. Check back often as new resources and information may become available. On-campus Asymptomatic Testing Center to Close December 14 Next month, the university will permanently close its COVID-19 asymptomatic testing center at the Human Resources Administration Building. The last day of testing is Wednesday, December 14. PCR testing options will still be available at other testing sites in Yolo County. |

Access the Graduate student Food Pantry in Walker Hall Due to a shortage of stock, the GSA pantry will be closed on Monday. As soon as the pantry receives shipment, it will be moving our operations to the picket line, at Hutchinson and LaRue to support the ongoing grad student and academic workers strike. Working on a fellowship application but can't seem to find the right narrative? Feeling discouraged because of writer's block? Schedule a writing consultation with one of our Graduate Writing Fellows! Fellows offer one-on-one 40-minute writing consultations with enrolled grad students and postdocs. Consultations offer you the opportunity to engage in a conversation about your writing at any stage of the writing process in a low-stakes, low-stress environment with a peer. While we are not a proofreading or editing service, we are happy to identify patterns of error in writing and help you learn about resources to improve grammar. Sign up for a consultation here! |

Funding Opportunities Public Scholars for the Future Fellowship The Maury L. Hull Endowed Fellowship for Musculo-skeletal Biomechanics Research was established in 2012 by Scott Maxwell ’84, MS ‘86 to support a graduate student engaged in research with an emphasis in the area of musculo-skeletal biomechanics. For more information about the establishment of this fellowship, see The Ultimate Gift. The fellowship award this year is $4,500. Eligibility Criteria Must be a Master’s or PhD student, presently enrolled, or accepted in the College of Engineering with an emphasis on research or studies in the area of musculo-skeletal biomechanics Preference for those enrolled in Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering graduate programs Must demonstrate academic accomplishment (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25)
Secondary Criteria To apply for this fellowship, applicants should email all of the following materials as a single package to Alin Wakefield (amwakefield@ucdavis.edu) by Friday, December 16, 2022. 1. An abstract describing current research 2. A two-page CV 3. A letter of recommendation from major professor.
