Happy Holidays. We are on a short break. The office will reopen 6th January.
The end of another year and time for reflection. We took your pulse towards the end of the year via our members survey which revealed that 89% of Members feel that the vision of PodiatryNZ “to advance the quality of and access to podiatry” is still relevant. Some Members questioned if "access to podiatry" was relevant. It is worth noting that the strategies that PodiatryNZ pursue in relation to "access", relate to improving funding and delivery of services for those in need of quality podiatric services. This includes patients with issues related to aged care, high risk foot and those services provided under ACC.
You value your membership with the three top reasons for staying a member being:
- Access to educational opportunities and the recording of your CPD events
- Keeping in touch with industry issues
- Accessing good quality and affordable professional indemnity insurance
96% of members acknowledge the work that PodiatryNZ undertakes in representing podiatrists on issues impacting the profession and 90% of members find conference a significant member benefit.
We thank you all for your feedback, we are constantly reviewing and modifying our offerings based on your feedback. We are proud of what we managed to achieve as a collegial profession this year.
This year for the first time in over seven years, we had a vote for Board members. This was because the number of Members nominating for the PodiatryNZ Board exceeded the number of vacancies. All candidates were well received by Members and there were only a handful of votes between them. Committed to ensuring Board succession, the Board will be co-opting members to participate in more committee work.
We know that we face challenges next year, it’s an election year and that gives us an opportunity to raise our profile with all political parties. The Health System Review will progress, and we continue to advocate for earlier intervention and more funding for podiatry. Performance reviews of the Registration Boards are on the agenda and we will be making our views known about the high cost of regulation for registered podiatrists. Our work with ACC is always ongoing both in the areas of “cost of treatment” along with the monitoring and review of the orthotics contract.
We look forward to working with you all in the coming year to ensure that we all help to make podiatry the best profession it possibly can be. Finally, we wish you, your families and whanau all the very best for the festive season and the new year.
