Mindfulness, Dharana, is one of the Eight-Limbed-Paths of Yoga. There are many helpful mindfulness practices which have been researched to be useful therapeutically. One of the mindfulness skills is "observing" without judgments. Are you able to observe things that you see, hear, feel, taste, or smell without judgments/preferences? To start, you can step back and notice what is going on internally (feelings, thoughts, physical sensations) and externally (environment). Experiment if you can notice them without saying "this is good, this is bad, I like it, I don't like it." Explore if you can just notice what is going on internally and/or externally without trying to change or avoid what you notice. |

I am going to be traveling back to Japan from 10/13/23-11/4/23. Sessions will be on hold from the wk of 10/9/23 and will be back on the schedule from the wk of 11/6/23. Online 45 min session is offered on Tue mornings every other wk and Wed mornings wkly. My favorite of this month is watching Tampopo enjoy Nikko-yoku and Shinrin-yoku. The former literally means Sun Bathing and the latter means Forest Bathing in Japanese. You might have heard of Shinrin-yoku somewhere, which means to take in the nature and take time to immerse oneself in the forest. No need for an expensive retreat, Shinrin-yoku can be done near your park, in your yard, or just outside anywhere near any tree! Wissahickon Valley Trail and John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge are accessible local places perfect for Shinrin-yoku! |
