A Note from the Director

The onset of March has me looking forward to all the fun events we’ll be hosting this summer, but I keep having to pull myself back – we have lots of amazing things happening right now. I hope you’ll join us!

Artists were chosen this week for our annual Juried Exhibition. We had a record number of applicants and can’t wait to see the artwork in the exhibition gallery! Get a sneak peek of this exhibit here. Next week, we’ll be accepting artwork from children in grades K-12 for the annual Youth Exhibit, which is displayed alongside the adult Juried Exhibition. Many thanks to Laura Schultz and Shelby State bank for sponsoring the cash prizes in the four different age categories (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12). We’re hoping for a great turnout this year, so if you know of a young artist, please share this opportunity with them. This is truly a wonderful chance for an aspiring artist to get exposure in an art gallery. Also, please join us for a public reception and awards presentation for the

Juried & Youth Exhibitions on Saturday,

March 18 at 1:00pm.

While we’re very excited about the Juried & Youth Exhibits, there is still time to enjoy our current exhibition, HUMAN/NATURE featuring works by artist Tatsuki Hakoyama. Tatuski’s imaginative and skillfully crafted artwork is on display through March 11, we hope you will stop by the gallery next week if you haven’t done so already!

This month we have a great line-up of classes – be sure to scroll down to check them all out! We are especially looking forward to two classes taught by Casey Bemis for those ages 12 and up: Etched Copper Jewelry and Jump into Chainmaille Jewelry. With all the supplies provided, these are great intro classes offering two unique types of jewelry-making. We’re also so excited to have this year's Juried Exhibition Juror, Carolyn Swift, teaching Exploring Layers & Lines on March 17. Carolyn is an extremely experienced educator and this is truly a unique opportunity - grab your spot today! Also, we have posted our Spring Break Art Camps - four classes are scheduled covering the entire K-12 age range. These camps are extremely affordable (and popular) thanks to sponsorship by Seaver’s Lawn Service, so be sure to sign up soon!

Now I do have to jump ahead a bit. Our fundraising committee is working hard planning both a spring and summer fundraiser. On May 5th, improv luminary Liz Allen will be gracing the stage at the Playhouse at White Lake to perform her one-woman show, ‘Tonight I’m My Mother’. She’ll also be teaching an improv workshop the next morning – Saturday, May 6th. Visit our website to purchase tickets for the show and the workshop. Those who sign up for the workshop also have the opportunity to purchase a ticket to the show at a reduced price! Proceeds from tickets sales to this event will go toward funding the affordable and accessible art programming we offer the community. And mark your calendar for Friday, June 23 from 7:00 – 9:00pm because we are bringing back the Summer Solstice Wine Tasting! This is a fun and popular event that brings old and new friends together to enjoy a variety of wines, snacks and a beautiful White Lake summer evening. Tickets for this fundraiser will be available soon – purchasing a ticket helps us to continue to keep the arts alive and thriving in our community – please know how much we appreciate your support!

Look forward to seeing you soon!
