Rally! Season 2, Issue 4: July 2022 |
We’re back! The Pride Cheerleading Association has a new logo, a new brand image, and Rally! has a new look! The PCA purple was chosen as our brand color for many reasons. In the rainbow LGBTQ+ Pride Flag, the purple/violet stripe is symbolic of “spirit,” which perfectly captures our personality and purpose. Also, purple is the non-binary blur between red and blue, where two opposite ends of color and light come together to complete a spectrum. It is vibrant, bold, ambitious, and cheerful - all the things we aspire to be! |

Our volun-journalists took the month of June off to be active in their communities. And, WOW, did we have an ACTIVE June! Our PCA Member Teams took the #PCAPrideTour to Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Antonio, Chicago, D.C., Denver, Portland, Seattle, New York, San Francisco and more! The data is still rolling in, but it looks like - with forces combined - PCA Member Teams hauled in over $28,000 in charitable donations during LGBTQ+ Pride Month, June 2022! The #PCAPrideTour continues this month, hitting Tacoma, WA and Long Beach, CA on July 9-10, and we won't stop rocking ‘til November! We will keep posting #PCAPrideTour highlights on social media, so keep an eye on PCA’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The month of June wasn’t all rainbows, though. The Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization) stymied 50 years of progress in this nation. On June 24, 2022, this was “news,” but it is important to recognize that this struggle is not new. Marginalized communities have been dealing with this for generations. The new impact is more devastating and more pervasive, certainly on persons with uteruses, but also on individuals and groups of individuals across gender, race, and socioeconomic lines. Access to healthcare and protection of privacy are mandatory prerequisites for equity. PCA stands with, amplifies, and supports all those who have been impacted by the existing, the new, and the changing laws affecting access, safety, privacy, and human rights. PCA creates Charitable Cheerleaders for every community. We need each other, and we need PCA. |

True Colors by CHEER San Francisco |
This month we asked CHEER San Francisco to show its true colors! CHEER San Francisco, established in 1980, is a Founding Member Team of the Pride Cheerleading Association and holds the title as the World's First LGBTQ-identified cheerleading team. In fact, CHEER SF is THE Charitable Cheerleading team that inspired what would one day grow to become PCA. In its lifetime of fundraising, CHEER SF has donated over $525,000 to charitable causes. During June 2022 alone, CHEER SF fundraised $11,850 from three Pride events, with several more events yet to come this Pride Season! This video gives you an insight into CHEER SF's "true colors," and how its color story was derived directly from, and designed to demonstrate ongoing support for, the LGBTQ+ community in the Bay Area and around the world. |

New Logo PCA launched its new logo on June 1! Our fabulous Logo Designer, Chris Williams (he/him), has been an important part of the PCA family since 2009. He was on CHEER San Francisco from 2009-2013 as a Performing Volunteer and 2014-2016 as Artistic Leadership; he has been on PCA’s Marketing Committee since 2017; and he was a dedicated member of the PCA Rebrand Team, which met monthly for about a year to revamp PCA’s broader brand identity including the development of this new logo and related graphic toolkit. The PCA logo was designed to carry over elements of the original logo which continue to represent aspects of our brand identity, to family well with the logos of our Official Member Teams and Official Partner Organizations, and, in its bold presence to visually situate PCA as related yet distinct in the worlds of LGBTQ nonprofits, cheerleading companies, and LGBTQ sports organizations. T-Shirt Fundraiser To celebrate the launch of the new logo, PCA ran a “ONE-TIME-POW” t-shirt sale through Bonfire, a 100% free fundraising platform that helps communities raise money for causes they're passionate about with the sale of custom apparel. This was the first time EVER that PCA apparel was customized to include individual team names and the new “Official Member Team” badge. The sale lasted only 10 days; we sold 83 shirts! Do YOU have one? Post your pics and tag us @pridecheerleadingassociation with the hashtag #PCARocks! |
