Sailors continue to build skills

Recently our student sailors completed one of small boat sailing's essential skills, capsize recovery.  While easy for some, others put in the extra effort to get the job done. A great job by all involved including our instructors!

Completing the capsize recovery is one of several essential skills for our student sailors to master in order to sail without an instructor on board.

Safe Boating Week

We were pleased to be a part of a Pittsburgh Safe Boating May 27th event held at the Station Square dock. Pittsburgh Safe Boating Council sponsored the event as a part of national Safe Boating Week. The local event featured safe boating practices including wearing life jackets while on the water.

An RS Quest sailboat towed to the dock event had some brief TV screen time during an interview on the event.

PPSL board chairman Joe Kirk is a member of the Pittsburgh Safe Boating Council.

Contributors' banner update

Several names have been added to the contributors' banner on the sailing platform. Instructor Chris Harlan and PPSL board member Pat Donnelly were added last month at the Skippers Level.

We are pleased to announce that long-term PPSL supporter Jim Roddey has become a sailing Sponsor Level contributor($200 to $999). His name was just added to the banner as another supporter of PPSL who helps to "Put the Wind in our Sails"!

Please consider joining these contributors at any level of giving so we can continue to provide sailing opportunities for Pittsburgh area high school students. See the donor links at the foot of this newsletter.
