Monthly Newsletter

Issue #9 - April 2024

Hello everyone! Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter. Your support is most appreciated.

What's New

This past month, I decided to end my relationship with my former publisher, Light Switch Press. In doing so, my first two books, Being Made and Eddie The Legend, were pulled from distribution.

In conjunction with this move, I have re-released both novels on my own. Thus, the Second Editions of Being Made and Eddie The Legend are now available for purchase through KU / Amazon.

As some of you know, I resist change. However, I've come to realize this is a change for the better. Self-publishing in its truest form allows me to take full control of my work. I appreciate everyone's help and support with this transition these past few weeks.

In Other News

Eddie The Legend, my breakthrough sports fiction romance novel, turns one year old on April 20th. To commemorate the occasion, the First Anniversary Collectors Box, is now available for purchase through My Website Shop. These commemorative boxes will include the following:

Signed Paperback Copy - First or Second Edition Option Available

Promotional Baseball Card

Stickers and Bookmark

Eddie Fitzgerald Signed Baseball in a protective case

Eddie Fitzgerald Prospect Scouting Report

The first letter from Kristine to "Hunter"

The Valentine's Day letter from "Hunter" to Kristine

An unsent letter from Eddie to Kristine, written one year after the book's ending

Since I am now stocked with the new editions, these boxes are ready and available to ship. Pricing is set at $40 +S&H. This is the number both Eddie and his father, Bruce, wore during their playing days.

For those of you who already have the print book and ONLY want the accessories to go with it, this option is available to you for $25 + S&H.

My next novel, Finding Brock, currently sits at just shy of 40,000 words. While there is a chance this book won't be available until late 2024, I am still determined to reach my self-imposed deadline of May 19th to complete the first draft. From there, my goal is to have it edited and printed by September 10th, just in time for Sinful Signings. I will have an update next month on the release date.

Speaking of my event on Virginia, I have just penned a new Core Memories short story called The Unaliving, which will become a part of the 2024 Sinful Signings Anthology. It will be released to everyone on October 1st. The Unaliving is the origin story for Heather, a character I teased in "Sinful Peaks" and introduced in "Black Number One." It is perhaps the darkest tale I've written to date, gut still very much a "Brian Scala story." I'm excited to share it with all of you when the time comes.

Upcoming Releases*

7/2/2024 - Fairweather Friend: A Core Memories Story

9/10/2024 - Finding Brock

10/1/2024 - The Unaliving: A Core Memories Story

12/17/2024 - One Last Breath: A Core Memories Story

Upcoming Events

My next big event is Dreaming Dirty in Michigan at the Hilton Garden Inn Ann Arbor on Sunday, April 7th, 2024. I'm looking forward to teaming up with the amazing Award-Winning Author Samantha Moran, whose spicy, horror novel Wicked Little Rabbit comes out on April 30th. I'll have more on this phenomenal modern-day tribute to Alice In Wonderland in my May newsletter. Suffice to say, it is absolutely worth it.

Next month, I'll be attending Dreaming Dirty In Maryland at the Lord Baltimore Hotel on Saturday, May 4th.

I can't wait to meet some of my favorite authors and readers closer to home at RomantiConn in Trumbull, CT on Friday, July 26th.

I am proudly returning to Sinful Signings next year. This amazing event will once again take place in Roanoke, VA on September 21-22nd, 2024.

October will be a busy month for me. I'll be at the Smash/Slash Author Bash in La Porte, IN on October 4th-5th. All proceeds will go to a local Domestic Violence shelter. FYI - there is still room available for authors who wish to sign, as well as readers who wish to attend. All of the pertinent information can be found here.

Also, I will attend the Books and Bourbon Spooky Soiree in Bardstown, KY on October 25-26th. Bardstown is not only the Bourbon capital of the world, but it is also known for its rich haunted historical history, and is the second oldest town in Kentucky. Thus, it is the perfect event for the spooky season.

I already have plenty of appearances lined up for 2025, including Romance In CNY, Aces Wild, and Getting Witchy With It. I am also planning to return to Ann Arbor for Dreaming Dirty in Michigan in 2025 and 2026.

Plus, I am anticipating some local craft fairs in conjunction with the Long Island Authors Group. These events will be announced sometime in the spring. Check my website and social media accounts for all the latest developments.

Author Spotlight

This month's spotlight focuses on a sassy romance author who thrives in the chaos of her own making. Our April Author Spotlight is Kris Mitchell.

Her latest book is the first in a series called Feels Like Healing. Stephanie has been a single mom against her will for a few years now. Putting Charlie first has become second nature. Her friends, and family, think she’s ready. But she’s not so sure.

Wilder moves across the country after a destructive break-up, taking himself far away from his pain and closer to his only friend. Living on his own he is finally working on living his life his way.

Overcoming their painful pasts is a journey. After meeting through a mutual friend neither can stop thinking about the other. Trust is hard to come by on their own, but together they can work on healing the damage and begin again.

Kris has also released an accompanying holiday piece called Feels Like Gathering. She is a steadfast member of The Romance Riot who is currently writing her next novel which centers around her character, Milo. Release date is still to be determined. Kris is a down-to-earth mother of five and a good friend as well.

What To Read

I am proud to be a small part of the indie author community. We are all in this together. Please consider these outstanding recent releases from my esteemed colleagues:

On A Personal Note

I was delighted to take a few days off in March to see family down in Florida. I couldn't miss my annual pilgrimage to see spring training baseball.

I've also decided to take on some marketing and promotional opportunities for the aforementioned Smash/Slash Author Bash. This gives me a chance to not only help out but to also gain some valuable experience. My long-term goal, aside from writing, is to organize an indie author event here on Long Island. I'm grateful for the chance to see how it's done. I look forward to learning from my colleagues as I attend more events throughout this year.
