And Just Like That...

We rang in a new one.

It is an unavoidable time for reflection, marking the end of a momentous measure of time and the beginning of another. 2021 showed me a distinct divide between the positives and negatives, my view of the world marching toward a contrasting black and white.  There wasn't much grey area for me in 2021.

But, painting was definitely a positive. It is where I find balance and optimism.

It slows the time. It brings me closer to center and adds the beautiful colors:)

So, what is going to happen this year?

My End of Year Review:

Although I created half the number of paintings of the previous year, the scale was much larger.

I only painted 2 DUNES- which was a surprising statistic from the end of year assessment. Can you believe it?  I started the DUNES series 10 years ago and it has always been a fan favorite. *Note: I will put it on the schedule in early 2022.

Instead, I jumped back into an old series, PROVINCES which is more architectural, but with my own energy and gesture. I plan to actually consider  my colors more in this series in the new year. ( I usually just use what is on the table. In fact, I use the same 6 tubes of paint for months, yet all the work is different. Perhaps I will write up my color stylist knowledge one day.  I think I am pretty good at it;)

I also, made a lot of headway on the WHERE THE LEMON TREES BLOOM- an impressive group of 6 new paintings of varying dimensions.

I added two new series, LIMITS and WAIT AND SEE.  It felt good to explore the paths that are tangled in my head.  I am pleased I was able to divide the new ideas into distinct directions.

So, what is going to happen this year?

Upcoming:

We are only a few days into the year. But, I am very busy following leads and sending inquiries for opportunities. We will see;)

January is also the time when I do a lot of writing and rewriting, an important part of my process.  It is important for the artist to find a voice. The writing informs much of what I do and why I do it. Because of this work, I am always prepared. I have all of the materials I need when an opportunity pops-up. It prepares me for applications and for teaching workshops, and improves my website. I prepare emails for contacting galleries and museums and update my evolving artist statement. I work ahead on new series writing and new exhibition ideas.

Apparently, I like hearing myself talk- I said that yesterday to someone and made myself chuckle.

It must be true...

I have a few exhibitions planned, including a 1-month Solo Exhibition this April.

The title is OUT OF MY HANDS.

Yes, that is a very good thing:)

I will write that in the in the Positive column.
