The Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of British Columbia’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. virtually. The purpose of this meeting is to receive the Annual Financial Report, review the Annual Report, present the budget for 2021- 2022 and elect any directors for the SBHABC Board for 2021-2023. British Columbians can now apply for the BC Recovery Benefit. This one-time, tax-free payment of up to $1,000 for eligible families and single parents, and up to $500 for eligible individuals is available now through June 30, 2021. Benefit eligibility is based on CRA Notice of Assessment’s net income from your 2019 tax return, and you must apply to receive the benefit. For complete details, including eligibility requirements and access to the online application, visit gov.bc.ca/recoverybenefit The BC Recovery Benefit (BCRB) will be automatically paid to people who receive income, disability (PWD) or hardship assistance and people receiving the senior’s supplement from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (SDPR). There is now no need to apply for the BC Recovery Benefit separately. |

Disabled Community Connection Network (DCCN) is a monthly communication and information group for people of all ages (16+) with any disability. This group is hosted by the North Shore Disability Resource Centre. This group is facilitated by and for people with disabilities. This year, volunteers may be able to complete and file your taxes virtually by videoconference, by phone, or through a document drop-off arrangement. Since May 2020, the CVITP has assisted more than 170,000 people with the filing of their income tax and benefit returns. If you cannot file electronically this year, we encourage you to check if you are eligible at About free tax clinics - Canada.ca and seek a CVITP clinic through their national directory. Teaching Awareness Through Puppetry (TAP) and Hydrocephalus Canada invite you to Attend this FREE Webinar on April 15, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. (EST) / 2:00 p.m. ( Pacific Time) Dog, Polar Bear & Moose are getting together to talk since it has been quite some time since their last chat. They talk about the way things are at school and Moose talks about a school project that Moose has been working on. Moose had been feeling scared & mad but recently Moose has made some changes. Moose talks about the changes and feels that talking has helped. Moose feels that talking is like having a ‘super power’.
Polar Bear needs help trying to feel like a hero. Dog and Moose show Polar Bear that we are all heroes & we all have super powers, like dancing, laughing, creating or listening to music or talking. This workshop is intended for youth in grades 3-6, but all ages are welcome. Parents and caregivers too! Did you know that you can help us fundraise by collecting your used beverage containers and returning them to your local Return It Express. Over 80 locations in the province. All is you need to do is put the containers in a clear bag and take them to your local return it express depot. At the depot you can use our phone number 604 878 7000 to print a label to place on the bag and then drop into the holding area. No sorting required ! Email us at sbhabc@shaw.ca and we will send out a starter kit to get you set up to join the program. Many thanks to our participants last year at Newton , Lougheed , Queensborough Landing, R & T Recyclables, Willowbrook, Walnut Grove, Surrey Central , Grand Forks, Walnut Grove , & Haney Bottle Depots. They collected 5136 containers which translated into $512.05 to help our members. |

Accessible Tourism Survey |

The Accessible Experiences Task Force is a board run by the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association. They are trying to help the way people with disabilities travel, and engage in tourism activities. As a result they have developed a survey to consult people with disabilities for their ideas of what needs to be changed in the tourism industry. |
