Permaculture is Taking Good Care of People & Planet

Permaculture in Action

On Sunday, February 21st we had many examples of "Permaculture in Action" out at Our Global Family Farm. We took care of the earth by planting vegetables in soil that we amended with compost. We took care of the fruit trees by spraying a preparation of horticultural oil and copper for organic pest control during dormancy. We took care of people by harvesting crops to give away to a food distribution. And we took good care of ourselves by nurturing our connection to the land.

You too can practice permaculture in person by coming out to our volunteer work days on Sunday mornings 9am to 12noon. We are located at City Farm SLO at 1221 Calle Joaquin Road in San Luis Obispo. Email treelees@charter.net to let her know you are coming.

FARMING AS MEDICINE

Transforming our World through Agroecology with Dr. Rupa Marya

Dr. Rupa Marya's presentation  is a brilliant weaving equity in agriculture, health, food, farmers, farm workers and the environment into one whole cloth.

"Rupa Marya is an amazing presence and speaker, she is a megaphone for the values our organization lives by."

This is a "must see." Click on the Vimeo link here:

Human health starts in the soil, mediated through the dialogue between the soil and gut with their respective microbiome. How we tend the soil must also reflect how we tend the people who tend the soil, how we tend the water, and how we tend to each other. Boldly articulating the need for a culture of care, she will show how colonialism fundamentally altered key ways of relating that held our health and the health of the planet in balance. Through the impact of decolonizing food and medicine, farmers and farmworkers play a crucial role as the ultimate stewards of our health.

Cultural Emergence / A Toolkit for Transformation / Designing Regenerative Cultures

Highlights of the - Cultural Emergence Book Launch

In late December Looby Macnamara launched her new book "Cultural Emergence - A Toolkit to Transforming Ourselves & The World." Here below is a video which shares some highlights from the launch, where Looby and others such as Jon Young, of 8 Shields, and Maddy Harland, Permaculture Teacher, talk about and discus the book and how it emerged. This approach is the intersection between nature connection & people connection. This transformation is exactly what we need right now!

Quail Springs offering online Permaculture Design Certification (PDC) Course

We are thrilled to officially announce that pre-registration is open for our online Permaculture Design Certification Course (PDC)!

10-WEEK ONLINE COURSE
APRIL 12 - JUNE 4, 2021
Quail Springs has taught in-person PDCs for over a decade, and more than 1,000 students have earned their Permaculture Design Certificates with us. We weren't able to host students at our demonstration site this year, and we've been mourning that loss. However, 2020 also gave us the opportunity to reflect on our curriculum and the way we deliver it, and dream up new ways to serve a changing world.
