"A Walk In The Watershed"

Sunday, October 20th

Join us for an informative and inspirational tour of two of PVCA’s stream bank improvement projects with habitat champion, Lysle Sherwin. Learn what impacts PVCA's Young Forest Initiative is having on water quality and wildlife from the expert. Hear from the farmers about the wildlife preservation work done by PVCA on their land.

Afterward, join Stacy Levy, world-famous landscape and sculpture artist, as she walks us through her property.  See how she defines wild vs built worlds using natural gradients that add beauty and habitat. Learn the answer to the question of how to live in a place without displacing the natural qualities that make the land beautiful.

We are offering bus transportation for attendees from Old Gregg School in Spring Mills to our various project sites, as well as to Stacy Levy's Farm,

and then returning to Old Gregg School.

Parking is limited at each location so we are requiring attendees either sign up to ride the bus for a $9 fee, or if you wish, you can bike or buggy to each of the locations for free.

PVCA Business Members, your tickets are free as a special "Thank You!" for your continued support of our organization.

Please contact us at info@pennsvalley.net for additional details.

Meet at Old Gregg School between 2:00 and 2:25 for departure at 2:30pm.

The address is:
106 School Street
Spring Mills, PA  16875

"The Big Sit!"

Muddy Paws Marsh

Sunday, October 13

The Big Sit! is an annual, international, noncompetitive birding event hosted by Bird Watcher’s Digest and founded by the New Haven (Connecticut) Bird Club. Every team that observes the year’s “Golden Bird” has a chance to win $500. Every year, bird watchers from around the globe unite on this special day by participating in this free event, open to any person and club in any country!

The Big Sit! is like a Big Day or a bird-a-thon in that the object is to tally as many bird species as can be seen or heard within 24 hours. The difference lies in the area limitation from which you may observe.

Our event is now listed as an official Big Sit! event:

Captain's Name: Jim Flanagan
Circle Name: PVCAsitters
Circle Location: Muddy Paws Marsh, Spring Mills Pennsylvania 16875 (United States)
Circle Description: Muddy Paws Marsh is a restoration wetland habitat with a several acre pond and sits alongside Penns Creek. We are hoping the restoration projects over the last couple of years yields some extra bird sightings.

Participants are allowed to come and go from the circle—especially for the purpose of bringing food back into the circle—and the circle need not be occupied for the entire 24 hours. There are Big Sit! circles all over the world, including Guatemala, India, the Netherlands, England, Vietnam, and New Zealand.

Centred Outdoors Poe Paddy Event

A Great Success!

Thank you to all who attended the Centred Outdoors event last Sunday, September 22nd at Poe Paddy State Park. It was a perfect afternoon for hiking, outdoor education and an opportunity to meet some new friends.

A special shout-out to Centred Outdoors / Clearwater Conservancy's Dan Trew and PVCA's Environmental Educator Jim Flanagan for the wealth of information they shared on native and invasive plants, wildlife and the unique geology of our region! PVCA's Director of Operations, Joshua Brock, was also on hand to give a talk on his many adventures across the State and local parks located within Centre County.
