SOME NEWS TO CHEER YOU - WE'VE MADE BIG PROGRESS!

and we're so happy to SHARE with you! PLUS it includes a photo of a very cute dog!

Dear Supporters, Followers and Customers,

As we approach the end of 2023, we're happy to report that we've been slowly plugging away with The Silk Rags Project and we're making breakthroughs with our aim to improve communication strategies when a friend receives a cancer diagnosis whilst donating 38% of our proceeds to Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

So please, check out our BIG news below in this newsletter. 2024 is the year where our original dream of an on-stage production of our musical will come true!

We'll be back with an update in January - and in the meantime, we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy 2024. Together, let's ensure together that Cancer is given its FINAL curtain call.

Regards

Dee Handyside

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF THE ONSTAGE 'SILK RAGS PROJECT' MUSICAL IS REALLY HAPPENING!

Our dream is coming true. And we're bidding for a TV doco about it!

The Musical of 'The Silk Rags Project' was always about community - because when someone faces a cancer diagnosis, its their community that is closest to support them.

So, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that it will be performed in Monto, Queensland - a small country town which has a huge heart - in March 2024.

Artistic Director of Monto Performing Arts, Maxene Cooper, saw one of our Facebook adverts and after reading the script and listening to the soundtrack held a reading for the group.

"'Everyone was very impressed with the whole concept, play and music, and thrilled to be producing it" she said.

We are now submitting the whole story of how The Silk Rags Project came to be to a National weekly documentary series (we'll let you guess who!) KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!

STAFF MEMBER 'BO' GETS INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION!

Our Composer Dee has a disability and relies very much on her Labrador Service Dog to complete certain tasks for and with her.

We're happy to report that 'Bo' recently passed her annual re-test for her Public Access Test and is certified to accompany Dee everywhere - including on stage at Dee's presentations about The Story of The Silk Rags Project.

'DAZZLING HARMONIES' EVENT RAISES $2,370 FOR WOMENS CANCER SUPPORT GROUP GOLD COAST

Our Composer Dee was the guest speaker at this event, joining 5 x award winning Womens choruses in an afternoon of music, singing, raffles and home-made afternoon tea. It truly was a wonderful afternoon with 100-strong chorus coming together to perform and an absolute pleasure to work with Redlands Rhapsody Chorus, Blue Sky Harmony, Hot Ginger, Brisbane City Sounds and Bella A'cappella.

A really wonderful day full of music, smiles, harmonies, cake and a wonderful cause!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY - TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN LITTLE THEATRE DONATES ALL PROFITS OF 'UNDER MILK WOOD' TO THE SILK RAGS PROJECT!

The classic Dylan Thomas Play for Voices 'Under Milk Wood' was performed at the Zamia Theatre, Tamborine Mountain in July 2023 with the Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre Group donating all raffle proceeds to The Silk Rags Project. This totalled $1,151 and we donated 50% of this to Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

The performance was so popular that the Group decided to put on one more special performance on 25th November - this time donating ALL profits to us.

Under the clever direction of Geoff Cartwright, the audience was treated to a live 'ON AIR' performance of a Radio Play in 1953, complete with home-made sound effects, a cast that liked sipping from their whiskey flasks and adverts from that era!

As the cast undertook multiple characters, the small town of Llaregubb woke from their slumbers to go about their daily life of gossip, unrequited love, schoolyard dares and secrets!

A delightful evening indeed! THANK YOU so much for your generosity, your talent, your community support and also to the Artist Tree, Ness n Nells Nook, Calanthe Collective, Ben and Rosie and The Re-Use Muso for the lovely raffle prizes.

2024 IS GOING TO BE AN EXCITING YEAR FOR US!

WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW OUR PROGRESS AND WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A PEACEFUL AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR.
