A Little Bit of Inspiration: I have recently decided I need to set aside time to reflect. Not on anything in particular--to be, to exist, without being busy. This is weakness of mine, as I am a person who is on all the time getting things done and multitasking. My small goal for the month is to take a half hour of every day to "just be". An assigned time to exist without deadlines and without a to-do list. This seems like a simple task, however, how many of us actually dedicate this time to specifically be by ourselves and with ourselves fully? I encourage you to participate in this goal and see what changes you see. |

What happened in October (and 1st half of November): Cook With Me Live! We had the first ever Cook With Me Live Members-Only Event and it was great! We cooked a super yummy filling, stick-to-your-bones soup called Potage Bon Valet (navy bean soup--can also use great northern beans). We also made oven jalapeno poppers and prepped for November's event by making pumpkin glop (that's pumpkin puree)! If you would like to become one of Katrina's Kits and attend these Members-Only events, click here to join. I have made a playlist on the YouTube channel only members can see so if you become a member, or if you are already a member and you missed an event, you can even go back and watch the replay of past events! Essential Oils-Special Guest Interview and Live Chat! Conal Rosanbalm with Ousia Labs was nice enough to let me interview him on October 24th and then joined me on the Live Chat at on October 30th to talk about a new at-home method for essential oil extraction! If you are at all interested in essential oils and missed these videos, you can watch the replays by clicking on the dates above. Their Indiegogo campaign ends on November 15th, so if you are interested, you'll want to check this out soon! (yes, they do have a payment plan option as well!) Roots & Refuge Collaboration! Jess with Roots & Refuge put out a call for channels to participate in a collaboration with must-have self-sufficiency, gardening, etc. hard-copy (non-electronic) book recommendations. I posted a video as a part of this collaboration! I believe she'll be putting all the videos in the collaboration together into a playlist soon. Broody Quail Mama Still Has 5 Babies! During my trips to Quail Con and The National Heirloom Expo, the main aviary was left alone (automatic waterer and long-term feeder). During this time, a quail went broody! She hatched 9 chicks (5 of which are still alive and doing well). They all got nice new blue leg bands--3 boys and 2 girls! I will have a video out about this in next soon. Re-Bred Bunnies! Ravioli and Rigatoni had false pregnancies, so they were re-bred, hopefully we'll have babies in December! |

What's coming up for the rest of November: Cook With Me Live! This is a members-only event for Katrina's Kits! If you are a member of Katrina's Kits, next Sunday, November 19th at 11 AM Pacific Time, we are getting together Live on YouTube to cook something together! We will be cooking the best home-made pumpkin pie and whipped cream! Click here to join us If you're already one of Katrina's Kits, you'll want to check out the community page on the YouTube channel for instructions...last month we made pumpkin glop (pumpkin puree) in preparation for this, so please have your 3 cups of pumpkin puree thawed--if you weren't able to make it home-made, buying unseasoned canned pumpkin puree at the store is ok. We will also be making some fun crafty centerpieces and learning some napkin folds to make your Thanksgiving table look fancy! If you would like to become one of Katrina's Kits, click here to join. Naming New Bunnies! Tortellini's two baby girls are growing up and will soon have names of their own! They will be added to the breeding program in March. We had a lot of names submitted for consideration, and I've narrowed them down to 4 check out the community page soon to vote on their names! Testing Incubators for Hatching Rental Program! I will be testing out some Brinsea incubators in preparation for offering a hatching rental program locally! I need to vet all the equipment first, and I'll be starting that process with eggs in the incubators later this month. I'm excited to get started on this! If you are local to Gilroy, California and want to pre-sign-up for this experience, please email me here. |

What Products are Available Locally: As always, you can find products for sale (both shipped and local pick up) on the website here. Eggs: I only have light on the Raviary (rabbits and quail) right now, so we are getting a limited amount of quail eggs (no supplemental light in winter=no eggs), so I am not taking large orders at this time. Let me know if you would like some eggs and I will save some back for you. I will be turning on the light to the main aviary in a couple weeks, so they will start laying 2-3 weeks after that. Herbs: Many of my herbs have gone to flower or seed and many of them have not. Fresh herbs currently available include French sorrel, winter savory, culinary sage, spearmint, and lemon verbena--until frost comes. Pineapple Guava (Feijoa): These yummy fruits are starting to ripen, they are super tasty! Bearded Iris: Now is the season for separating irises, and I have some amazing dark purple bearded irises available. More! I likely have more than I can think of right now, and can make crafts to order. If you want to see if I have something else available, email me here. |
