Mike Picco: NSI Person of the Year

Unbeknownst to Mike, his trip to TISE StonExpo/Marmomac in Las Vegas at the beginning of February was much more than just NSI board meetings, tradeshow events, and seeing industry friends and colleagues. Mike was awarded the “Person of the Year” during the Awards Ceremony on February 1, 2022. The Person of the Year Award is presented annually to a person who provided extensive support to the Natural Stone Institute’s executive staff during the year. The winner is selected by the NSI’s CEO and Executive Vice President.

Congratulations Mike, on all your efforts and accomplishments!

Junction Point Condos

Junction Point is a new 111–unit, 8–storey luxury condo by Gairloch Developments at Dundas Street West & Dupont Street, in Toronto. PICCO worked with architect Peter Clewes and the design team at architectsAlliance to help determine the feasibility and required support for brick screen facades. The condo is due to be completed in the Spring of 2023 and will lend its beauty to one of Toronto’s most lively neighbourhoods—“The Junction”.

Stone and the 7 New Wonders of the World

In 2007, 200 monuments across the globe were nominated to become the next “7 New Wonders of the World”. Over 100 million voters narrowed the list down to the final seven. Amazingly—but not surprisingly, all of the monuments are built with some component of stone. Naturally, we were curious to explore further.
