Deer-Resistant Plant Spotlight |
This month, I'm shining the Spot On Plant Spotlight on Angelonia, also known as summer snapdragon. Like true snapdragons (Antirrhinum), these are a deer-resistant annual that provide a nice vertical counterpoint to all the low, round-flowered bedding annuals out there. But unlike real snapdragons, angelonia loves the heat. If it's time to freshen up your fall planting beds, you can check out this blog post on snapdragons I wrote last fall or purchase snapdragon seeds from our affiliate vendor, Botanical Interests (a small portion of the sale goes to support my site). |

As a newsletter subscriber, your bonus content this month is a sneak peek at another great new deer-resistant annual that got lots of oohs and ahhs during the media unveiling this month. 'Drops of Jupiter' oregano is an ornamental version of the edible herb, with chartreuse yellow leaves and mauve pink flowers surrounded by purple calyxes in late summer. In next month's newsletter, I'll bring you more plant intros to look for next year, or you can click the link below to see some on my website. Photo courtesy of Walters Gardens, Inc. |
