Self-September

Week 1

Hey Protected babes,

If you read Self-September blog post then you know what the month of September theme is. It's all about SELF. In the blog I mentioned a self-care wheel. The self-care wheel is made up of six sections each geared to focus on the overall well being of self and life balance. This week I will be focusing solely on the psychological section. This section on the self-care wheel encourages you to focus on Self-reflection, Therapy, Journaling, Self-awareness, Sensory engagement, Aromatherapy, Drawing/Painting, Relaxing in the sun, Gardening, Reading a self-help book, Joining a support group, Thinking about your positive qualities. Practicing asking and receiving help.

Although this section have many areas that you can focus on you can choose one area to focus on for week 1. Also remember the psychological section does not have to be your area of focus. There are five other areas: Emotional, Spiritual, Personal, Professional and Physical. This is just where I'm starting. This week I am choosing to journal twice a day. Once in the morning when I wake up and once at night just to help me set my intentions for the day in the morning and to also create a space to release at the end of my day. My focus will be my highlights of the day, so that I can go to bed in a positive mindset. Any event that occurred that day that may not be something to highlight, if I can't control it then I must release it. Often times we don't realize how much we carry with us from our day and forget to release. The other area I will be focusing on is reading a Self-help book. The book I am starting is: A guide to managing unhealthy family relationships "Drama Free" by: Nedra Glover Tawwab. Understanding where unhealthy relationships steam from first start with understanding the relationships we have with our families who were the first peers we encountered before developing relationships on our own with people who may became our friends, acquaintances, and or who we gave the title family to. Understanding these core relationships will help us understand the relationship we have with ourselves.

If there is a support group that you are looking to join I am a founding sister of Win Woman Empowerment Group. We meet weekly on Thursdays via zoom at 7:00 PM. You can send a direct email to protectedpaid@gmail.com for more information.

I pray that this week brings you insight, peace and relaxation. Remember it's not selfish to care for Self. Create some alone time to pour into yourself.

6. 1 Peter 3:4

“Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

When it comes to self-care, there are often two sides that we look at. Sometimes it is easy to focus on one side and not take in consideration the other side. It's good for us to take care of ourselves outwardly, and there are different ways that we can do this, without being overly fixated on our outward appearance. God’s word reminds us that, while it is not a bad thing to take care of ourselves outwardly, there is an inward beauty that is far more precious to God.

This is the beauty of a heart, mind and spirit that is gentle and quiet before God. The world can judge a person on their outward appearance, but remember it is God that looks at the heart, and that is what matters most to him.
