Hello!

I’m back in London now after a two-week visit to Chicago, which was beyond awesome. I got to spend time with family and friends, and revisit my other life as an artist. I went through and catalogued (and moved) every single painting and drawing that I have. I don’t remember how many, let’s just say a lot (and I was sore for days!). But great to reconnect with my past.

So, here’s the news, The Peanut Factory release date is tomorrow, 24 May! Our 70s squatter memoir by Deborah Price. Many thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered a copy, really appreciate your support. I’ve posted all the books so hopefully yours has arrived by now (and ebooks will land in your inbox tomorrow). I truly hope you enjoy the book, and if you do and have a few minutes to spare, we’d love to hear what you think. A short review on Goodreads or Amazon would be amazing. Even a few sentences is fine. Amazon UK: amazon.co.uk/Peanut-Factory-Deborah-Price/dp/1838471944

Pre-orders are still available from Guts with a special price of £9.95 up until midnight on 24 May. Here’s the link: gutspublishing.com/the-peanut-factory. It’s also available from The Book Depository, Amazon (worldwide), Waterstones, Foyles, Barnes & Noble – to name a few. As well, your local bookshop can order a copy for you from Gardners or Ingram.

If you're an ebook reader, you can buy the ebook from Guts Publishing (from tomorrow). It's also available from Apple Books and Amazon worldwide.

We’ve had some great reviews and review blurbs. Here’s one by the one and only Captain Sensible (The Damned):

“Enjoyed the book, it really took me back to those days. Life was a bit rugged wasn't it, sleeping on floors, nicking people’s beers in the pub, getting chased down the road, trying to start a band with no money... at least there was glam rock and then punk. I'd go back in a flash if offered, sod all this smart tech garbage, gimme an afternoon pulling pints in the Gloucester followed by a nap in front of the TV blaring out the Crossroads theme.”

And here’s a few more:

“Telling journal about the London squat scene in the post punk era. Compelling and disturbing in equal measure — especially the outside toilets.” — Jim Tavaré, comedian, actor and musician.

“A beautifully grungy coming-of-age memoir set in the squats of 1970s London. Deborah Price is a gifted storyteller who will remind readers how it feels to be young, broke, uncomfortable and marginalised, but gloriously hopeful and madly in love with life.” — Nikki Sheehan, author of Goodnight, Boy

“A vivid and gritty picture of living in squats around south London in the late 1970s with tales of the harsh living conditions and the many characters she encountered. It’s frank and candid which is just how it should be in telling a story that sometimes takes a few tragic turns. A great read and thoroughly recommended.” — Mark Williams, author of Smash-It-Up

We have three Peanut Factory launch events and we’d love to see you there! Although the first one in Brighton (on 24 May) is sold out, we also have one at The Bookseller Crow bookshop in South London (Crystal Palace) on 26 May. Right where the action takes place in the book. For details visit our Eventbrite page.

We also have an online event on 1 June at 7pm GMT (with £2 off the book if you attend).

If you can’t make it to any of those, we had an informal reading/launch on 12 May which we recorded and posted on our blog: gutspublishing.com/post/the-peanut-factory-book-launch-watch-video

Ok, that's about it for now. Many thanks for reading and, as always, thank you for your support. If you’d like to keep up with our news more regularly follow us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. We’re doing all three now. For a while I had abandoned Facebook as I couldn’t manage three social media accounts, but now I’m back at it.

I’ll be in touch again soon.

xx Julianne
