Annual Open House set for June 19;

bring a friend or colleague

The Annual Open House is an opportunity to bring a friend or business associate to introduce them to the Nashville Catholic Business Women's League and network with other members. Our membership has been growing during the past year and we hope this open house will give more women an opportunity to consider joining (and continuing to strengthen) our group.

NCBWL President Teri Gordon will be hosting the Open House this year at her home. Members please bring wine or an appetizer to share. We look forward to having you join us for this fun, casual night for fellowship and making new connections.

President’s message:

Wise Women Work Wonders

The season between Easter and Pentecost is a busy time in the Liturgical Year. After the austerity of Lent we joyfully celebrate the resurrection at Easter. Then comes the 6 weeks between Easter and Pentecost. This was a time of rejoicing and anxiety for the Jesus’s followers. Joyful that Jesus had risen and defeated death, but also a time of trepidation for Jesus told them he would be leaving

soon to go to the Father.

We celebrate Easter, the Ascension and Pentecost during these weeks. Next Sunday is Pentecost and the Holy Spirit bringing forth his gifts. We are celebrating confirmations throughout the diocese along with the other endings and beginnings such as graduations, weddings, etc. Throughout these celebrations we complete the task at hand with the help of the Holy Spirit. His gifts are present in our daily lives and we draw strength from
them and Him, who is our Advocate.

This brings me to the theme of my letter to you, “Wise Women Work Wonders”. This is a
phrase that was part of a Vacation Bible School lesson from years ago, a long, long time ago. Before there were Catholic VBS curriculum, my parish in Columbia, St. Catherine of Sienna would tweak a VBS  curriculum from one of the Protestant publishers to make it Catholic. This phrase was a modern twist on Proverbs, but we busy moms grabbed on to it and used it as our battle cry for that week of hectic but joyful noise known as VBS. Even our priest embraced it by keeping out of our way. When things got crazy, one woman always said, “The Holy Spirit will provide” and we all breathed a sigh of relief. I think
the Holy Spirit is working in each and everyone of us as we “wise women work wonders”.

This month is our annual Open House. It is a wonderful opportunity for our members to gather for hospitality and networking. The annual Open House this year is at my home and I am so excited to host this fun event. Please extend an invitation to the women in your family or at your parish that might be interested in learning more about us. This is an informal gathering that is always a lot of fun. Members are asked to bring a bottle of wine or a food item. My address is 533 Solomon Drive, Franklin, TN.

Preparations are already underway for the 2019 Pearls of Wisdom annual luncheon and auction. The Auction committee is meeting June 5 for its first strategy and planning session. Karen McCoy and Cindy Zwickel have assembled an impressive team. Stay tuned for more information. Last month the new board members were installed and along with the new committee chairwomen have assumed their duties. I want to extend my heartiest thank you to all who either relinquished or assumed a leadership role. The transition has been seamless, not a step out of place. I am so honored to be serving with you all.

As we go forward this month and, in the months, ahead with our busy schedules let us not
forget that the Holy Spirit is with us every step of the way. He is our Advocate and he has bestowed his gifts and fruits upon all of us and one of these is Wisdom. We are all “wise women who work wonders”  with the help of the Holy Spirit. See you on June 19 at my house for the Open House. “Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest! and in our Souls take up Your rest. Come, with Your grace and heavenly aid, To fill the hearts which You have made.”

NCBWL helps with Habitat for Humanity Women's Build

Several NCBWL members along with volunteers from Lowe's helped lay sod, plant trees, finish interior molding, install bathroom fixtures, door knobs and do some touch up painting for a new home for Shameka and her 2 little girls as a part of Habitat for Humanity's recently Women's Build. Volunteers worked hard in the hot sun on the new home as well as served as the hospitality crew and supplied snacks and drinks for all of the volunteers.
