[Newsletter] Why In July

Hi Deerdra!

Did you think I was going to forget about issuing The Goods this month?

I did.

Well, kind of.

We all have started something and either don't finish it, or park it for a while. In my case I parked it. It seemed easy to park it because I bounced back and forth on convincing myself that no one is really sitting waiting for these newsletters, and, no one cares really. Aaaaah, the mind, a dangerous place sometimes; it can make you believe things that simply just aren't real.

Yet here I am, days away from the end of the month and I've reminded myself about 'my why' and why it is that I'm doing what I'm doing. Why am I taking the time to assemble themed thoughts every month in the spirit of the good? It's been a reflective journey and I've answered many questions to myself on why. A dear friend reminded me about Simon Sinek's infamous TED Talk on 'Starting With Why'. I've watched it many times. It was the nudge I needed to finish this edition because I know my calling, purpose, belief is that in some small way, my why may help you. Whether it be small reminders to be happy, sure, fulfilled; or to just give you a smile for the day.

Finding, understanding, or re-discovering your why is good.

That's "Why In July" is the theme of this (almost end-of-the-month but never-too-late) edition of:

WHY | adverb; for what cause, reason, or purpose. Courtesy of: Merriam-Webster

"Why fit in when you were born to stand out."

This handsome fella is one reason why I'm so proud to be a Mom. Last month he celebrated his 24th birthday. Happy birthday Mike! We still owe you a dinner!

So we did a thing on July 16th! Our annual family picnic took place at Brady Lake. It was the first reunion of The McIntosh clan since before the pandemic. My daughter, Meghan, (the other reason why I'm so proud to be a Mom), flew home from BC to surprise everyone! Another surprise came from and for my Mom. After spending 2 weeks in the hospital she, again, made it home. Her health didn't allow her to make it outside for the festivities, so we brought it to her. (Video credit goes to Meghan!)

Deerdra Developments

I'm still plugging along

for the next edition

in the series of

Deerdra story books.

Eventually it will be here because writing these stories is another big part of my why.

Instead of giving yourself reasons why you can't,

Give yourself reasons why you can!

Remember Your WHY!

We don’t get burned out because of what we do.

We get burned out because we forget why we do it.

Feeling Good at leaders2give

We now have an on-line auction available, with proceeds and donations directed to Leaders2Give, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

It's all for constructing a new home to protect vulnerable children in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Who knew buying a TV, getting a personal trainer, or going on a luxury vacation could be an act of charity!

Check out our online auction raising money for the El Cardonal Children’s Home Project.

Have fun bidding, get something new, and feel good 😀 (it closes Sept 25, 2022)

Why a New Children's home?

Leaders2Give learned of a family in which a single mother had to seek medical treatment for one of her children suffering from Leukaemia. She had no one to leave her other children with so she was forced to temporarily abandon them where they lived in the slums of San Jose in a shack. We then learned from an organization providing health care to women in Baja California Sur, that is a common occurrence. Because of the lack of social infrastructure, when illness strikes a family, especially a single parent, an alarming amount of the time the children are abandoned while medical treatment is being sought. This new children's home will shelter, feed, and educate these unfortunate children in a loving and safe environment while the parents are seeking medical attention.

Proceeds from the on-line auction will help build the facility will allow us to setup operationally and fund the children's home. A tax deductible 501(c)(3) receipt will be issued (US tax payers only).

For more information about the children's home and its genesis, please watch this video.
