A DOSE OF DISPATCH

WE. GET. SHIP. DONE.

Woodbine Logistics' newsletter is where we share the latest development in the industries we serve, as well as trending articles from social media, shipping news, sports and more. Newsletters are sent on the second Thursday of each month, as we review the month that was, and what’s to come. Feel free to share with your customers, vendors and colleagues!

March Madness!

March is naturally busy. The Christmas hangover is over and the prospect of the year starts to take hold. This is consistent with what we have seen at Woodbine; more volumes, more shipments, but fewer trucks and drivers. I say this because most of our preferred partners are still driving around the clock to make sure all of our products get to their desired destinations, within a reasonable timeline. We have never seen such a high volume of shipments, and yes, prices are higher than we would like. Most of you understand that there are not enough drivers or trucks, so let’s appreciate those who are making moves for all of us- it would be impossible without them.

It’s kind of ironic to extrapolate these highly eventful and charged newsletters to what’s going on in the “real-world”. But here we are telling you that logistics are a direct derivative of what’s actually happening. First, it was a bashful American president, then it was a careless North Korean King? President? Demi-God or alien with a penchant for ballistic missiles; which shade in what’s going on for us today. We can look back at those days as a time full of entertaining reality TV and a strong cause of NIMBY (not in my backyard). Fast forward a few years and we face a possible world war undermined by an ongoing pandemic. Whether it’s the buyer or a supplier, we are ALL affected. As you know, I like to bring levity to what’s going on in the world, but my pack is dry. There is nothing light or funny about what’s going on and the fact that we need to observe it without complete answers is futile. So here’s what I suggest; Be respectful, be truthful and help your neighbour. That is the only basket I can put my eggs in.

So let’s get to the funny stuff…Italy is missing the World Cup..I have mixed tequila and red wine, I have been so dehydrated that I would walk on hot ashes to reach an empty bottle of water just to find solace in holding it. But when we talk about the biggest hangovers of all time, HOW does a team go from winning a major tournament to deciding not to play in one 2 years later, for the second time in a row! I have many Italian friends/family, and they even agree it’s too late to blame the refs. But here we are in 2022 looking for answers that no one will ever find – Mi Dispiace!

Woodbine continues to see a surge in freight and as we get busier, we tend to see more complications arise with shipments whether its finding equipment or delays in transits, nothing can be perfect as much as try. One thing we can promise, is our service to you and the care we have for each and every one of our customers remains consistent. With every issue, there is a solution, and we will do anything we can to make sure we keep you and our fellow carriers satisfied. That’s our job at Woodbine and WE.WILL.GET.SHIP.DONE.

With Easter, Ramadan and Passover around the corner I will leave you with some levity (finally, after all)…It’s a joke so here it goes: A Priest, an Imam and A Rabbit walk into a restaurant…The Rabbit says “I think I’m a typo…”

Members of Food Supply Chain Raise Driver Shortage Concerns

Gary Cands, SVP, Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, raised the issue of rising costs related to truck transportation at a recent Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food:“The cumulative impacts to the entire supply chain that arise from these challenges are not always borne entirely equally. We know that many of our members are seeing cost increases from suppliers in the range of 25% to 30%. They are seeing trucking costs more than double, and fuel surcharges have gone through the roof,” he said.

76ers must slay playoff demons when they run it back against the Raptors
