PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESS MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAM 1st Quarter 2019 Newsletter Principles of Success Mantra "I am what I believe I am. I can be anything I believe I can be. Therefore, I choose to believe, that if I try my best in everything I do, I am going to have a successful and productive life." |

Greetings Newsletter Readers, We have completed another successful program year in which we recognized thirty-four young men at our Culmination Luncheon on December 15, 2018, at the Radisson Hotel at USC. While the opportunity to lead this program requires a significant amount of effort and commitment, it is clearly a labor of love which I believe God has assigned to my hands. The opportunity for me to observe the growth and development of our program participants from the interview process in April to the end of the program in December gives me great satisfaction in knowing that our efforts are not in vain. In fact, I am highly confident that the long-term impact we are having on our program participants will be significant. The Principles of Success Program not only seeks to benefit the participants but their families as well. Accordingly, for 2018, we implemented a series of three parent workshops on the USC campus, led by Dr. Erica Holmes-Graves, the spouse of one of our men volunteers. We received outstanding feedback from these parent attendees. We have already started the planning process for our |

2019 POS program, which includes a five-hour retreat for our men/leaders to come together, debrief on our 2018 program performance, and make adjustments and modifications where needed to our 2019 program. We are actively considering ways to expand the number of young men we can reach and impact annually. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to our volunteers who are responsible for the success of this program, as we have no paid staff. These individuals sacrifice time away from their own families to do whatever is necessary to positively impact the lives of our participants. I am equally grateful to our financial supporters without whom we could not conduct this program and meet all of our financial obligations. The primary focus of our program is to reach young men of color who can benefit through interaction with and mentoring from our outstanding group of men and volunteers. If you know such young men, please refer them to our website at principlesofsuccessmp.com, as the 2019 application filing period begins March 1, 2019. Thanks for your continuous support and be well! Mechanical Engineering, Howard University MBA (Finance), Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI), National Financial Educators Council WHY I VOLUNTEER: Upon retiring, I knew that in addition to my love of sports, travel, and the stock market, I wanted to use my professional background to help provide personal financial knowledge to a large underserved segment of the U.S. An epidemic of financial illiteracy was apparent and impacting both the providers and the consumers of |

global products and services. Using my education, experiences, and global exposure to the wealthy, I decided to become a certified financial education instructor (CFEI) and developed The Big Five of MONEY. The entertaining, educational, and motivational presentation gives my audiences an overview of how money is earned, spent, borrowed, saved, invested, and protected during one’s lifetime. I now search the inner city for opportunities to provide these FREE seminars. I volunteer because I want to help guide the underserved of the inner city to the skills they need for their own economic improvement. BENEFITS OF THE PRINCIPLES OF SUCCESS MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAM: The young men who have an opportunity to participate in this unique program may not immediately appreciate or understand the value of all they learn during their participation in the program. This may occur later in life. |

The African-American male mentors/facilitators/guests share knowledge and life experiences unique to African-American males; as a result, this program provides “exposure,” one of the most valuable ingredients these young men need to make wise life choices. In addition, POS provides exposure to USC Marshall School of Business facilities, exposure to Jr. Achievement's Finance Park, exposure to PricewaterhouseCoopers's Los Angeles office, and exposure to knowledge not often shared or available to those growing up in the inner city. In addition to skills, participants are in an environment that can contribute to lifelong relationships with other participants and mentors. The program’s environment is also designed to help self-esteem as participants gain knowledge and skills that typically require years to learn. It is my hope that as they prepare to confront the world, they value Love and God and recognize the importance and value of money for financial security and stability. |

I was blessed to have my son participate in the Principles of Success Motivational Program. It was truly a great experience that had an amazing effect on his academic performance. As his father, I am constantly seeking to instill in my son valuable insights into life, a character of integrity and a strong work ethic. Participating in POS, he had all three of these reinforced and modeled before his eyes. He was able to receive keys to success directly from men who themselves have been successful, as well as experience their dedication to the Black community. Seeing these men commit their time and energy to our young men month after month was inspiring. |

While in the program, my son’s grades rose from a C average to straight A’s, which he himself attributed a lot to the program and the lessons he learned from reading the book A Setback Is A Setup For A Comeback. Additinally , he was able to learn how important it is to have an impeccable work ethic. I appreciate the great work these brothers are doing for |
