FEBRUARY 2023 Well... it has become a long newsletter with perhaps too many items but I am equally enthusiastic about all of them. So I share it with hopefully infectious passion! It was with great enthusiasm and curiosity that I took on an exciting new portrait assignment last month. Further on I tell you briefly what the portrait is for. I find painting by observation increasingly fascinating. Meanwhile, I have made a small pochade box to make it easier to paint outside. And I have some new landscape paintings to show you... About Art Consult: I have been enthusiastically 'teaching' for more than a year now to about five participants. And I would like to expand that! Read what I'm thinking about. Maybe something for you if you are looking for a weekly creative routine. : ) Abstract art has finally taken more shape. Much of a new portfolio is now online. Take a look and let me know what you think! And lastly, a question from a starting entrepreneur; I am looking for more (portrait) commissions, a gallery or other ways to make my work more visible to the public for attention and sales. If you have any ideas or know someone who might want to commission a portrait of buy work? It would help me a lot if you could forward my work or newsletter. Thank you very much in advance! Warm regards, Frank |

During a recent conversation of great integrity, reference photos and sketches were made and a series of colours mixed to match. A professor at Radboud University in Nijmegen is in fact retiring in June, and the portrait will be officially unveiled during the farewell ceremony. With the information I have gathered, I will start painting the portrait in the coming time. |

Unlike photographs, reality hides so much more nuanced visual information. Here is a foretaste of small landscape paintings still made from self-made photos but I have since become very curious about painting 'en plein air' to better translate that sensitive information into a smooth impression in oil paint. It won't be long before you can spot me in nature with a ‘en plein air’ easel and a thermos bottle of coffee! Hope the paintings below inspire you, love to hear about it! Should you be interested, the prices include a nice baking frame and shipping (EU). |

In a short blog you can read about this DIY pochade box which was great fun to design and build, as well as a light weight wet panel box. |

I would like to invite you to take a look at around 12 new abstract works from the Elysian Inquiries Series I have made available on my website. The recently finished pieces are quite compact in size. They come framed and arrive ready to hang. Curious to learn what pieces you like the most. |

What I love about ArtConsult: trying to interfere as little as possible with someone's path of creative development and remain 'invisible'. For me, it's about identifying and removing as many obstacles as possible for participants so that they get into a flow. For example, in terms of uncertainty, technical skill or learning to see something. When I get it right, I see enthusiasm and full proud smiles that in turn make me very happy! Meanwhile, I have been asked to take over lessons from someone who is unfortunately unable to attend due to illness. Once a week on Wednesday evenings, I get to guide about 10 participants in their self-initiated projects. From landscape to portrait, oil to ink. For me, a wonderful way to explore how I can start offering this in its own form, in my own way. If you are interested, please let me know via the button at the bottom of this newsletter. |

I was in Rotterdam late last year and wanted to admire the DEPOT. Not to know that would be somewhat disappointing.... Very 'dry' and industrial. In that sense, it fits with the idea of visiting a storage space. But that doesn't help the way art is presented. Looking for more inspiration, I walked on afterwards to the Kunsthal for Ai Weiwei's expo which surprised me. Not primarily by his style of 'design' but more by the content of his work. It touched my spirits... Still on show at the Kunsthal until early March and well worth seeing. 'EVERYTHING IS ART. EVERYTHING IS POLITICS.' Ai Weiwei |
