THE MONTH OF LOVE

Happy February, Everyone! This is one of my favorite heart pics - my last cappuccino before leaving Italy. It still warms my heart when I recall all the loving memories from such an incredible place! I hope you have a favorite heart pic, too. Speaking of hearts and love, during this time, I also like to recall what Seggourney told Benedict in Chapter 6, Book 1, "Love works best when you give it away." Enjoy this month of love!

LAST MONTH'S EGGING!

In January we egged Childs Play Foundation! This amazing nonprofit in Detroit, headed by Kierra Childs, does impactful work for at-risk kids. They provide academic and sports programs, nutritional guidance, and transportation to help enrich and improve the lives of our young people. We were able to egg them with several Chromebooks which will be used in their upcoming April Debate Scholars Program!

MERCY ASSOCIATES OF CONNECTICUT

A very grateful THANK YOU goes out to the Mercy Associates of Connecticut, who chose The Good Eggs Foundation as the recipient of the Claire May Memorial Grant. Claire May had a vision of helping those in need and this grant will allow us to continue her vision. Thank you for this opportunity!

WHERE ARE THE EGGS THIS MONTH?

(Book 2, Chapter 6)

February - India

The Eggs landed in New Delhi and were met by Rashi, one of Shelly’s friends. They feasted on some wonderful Indian food, as Rashi told the Eggs of her sister’s upcoming wedding.  Throughout their stay, the Eggs visited and learned about the Taj Mahal, attended Rashi’s sister’s wedding, complete with mehndi, and also attended a Cricket match.  Their visit concluded with an exciting tour of a tiger reserve, which made Ms. Poach a little nervous!

NOW LET'S HEAR FROM ANOTHER

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION DIRECTOR;

MEET OUR FEBRUARY GOOD EGG!

As the Intercultural Training Director, I seek to create learning spaces for Wayne State community members to build capacities to engage with those who are different from them.

The research into intercultural competence has indicated that an increase in curiosity, open-mindedness, empathy, and self-awareness, among other skills, are known to deepen intercultural mindsets. To that end, my educational and professional development offerings seek to build those capacities in order to make WSU a more inclusive campus.

I believe DEI work is about learning, growing, and making bold changes for the betterment of those who have been historically marginalized. As a result, an educational environment, wherein students are learning and faculty are producing cutting-edge research, is a conducive place to for DEI work.

I was drawn to WSU, in particular, because I truly get a sense that people at this institution care about creating an equitable and inclusive environment.

Since my arrival at WSU in May of 2022, I have offered many kinds of learning and development offerings. Topics include foundations of DEI, implicit bias, and inclusive supervision. I also serve as an internal consultant to office, departments, and divisions.

And I create customized professional development offerings. You can see some of the assessment of my work here.

I recommend anyone who is desiring to increase their intercultural competence to spend some time reflecting on themselves. What are some of my core beliefs or values and how may they be reflective of my cultural background?

This sort of reflection can lead to some deep insights, especially if/when you are engaging with those in a different culture.

Alex, your work is truly invaluable and we thank you for taking the time to share your profound insights with us!

 See you in March!

AND - thanks for being a Good Egg!

Kindly,

Sandy
