World of Many Colorus Raffle

The scarf, World of Many Colours is hand spun from 70% of fine merino wool and 30% silk. It is hand knitted and measures 160cms long, 25cms wide and weighs 115 grams. The scarf was juried and exhibited at the recent Creative Fibre New Zealand National exhibition in Porirua.

Leigh Morris, who made the scarf, World of Many Colours, has been hand spinning and knitting for over 40 years. Following the publication of his book “The Handspinner’s Companion “ in Australia in 1994, he has tutored hand spinning at two Coloured Wool World Conferences, and throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Leigh continues to teach, most recently at the last two Majacraft annual spinning camps.

He was the first male person in 1989, and still is the only male, to have been awarded the Hand Weavers Guild of America’s Certificate of Excellence in Hand Spinning. To date there has only been 38 recipients of this award.

Leigh began learning to hand spin as a form of relaxation from the stress of working for the Ambulance Service in Melbourne. He has continued to spin because not only does it allow time for quiet reflection, but also there continues to be the joy and challenge of creating.

Leigh is very happy to donate this scarf to raise funds for Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust.

He considers this to be a very worthy cause.
