…………………..

Just getting back into the 'writing' season now we are into the winter months in the UK. The first newsletter for a few months, but expect more over the coming months as I add content to the site ! The website stock is looking somewhat depleted at present after a couple of large orders that has wiped out a lot of stock at the end of last year. These are being replaced as we speak with a lot more to be added, are you looking for anything specific? A couple of very nice collections purchased last year and they will be coming on to the site as soon as they are all catalogued - Best wishes - Mic

The Snelling Archive

In the last newsletter I mentioned that I had been given access to the Snelling Archive a series of letters and ephemera, from and relating to George Baxter.

Read the first of these fascinating letters

Frederick Mockler is an important name in the world of Baxter print collecting, writing the first attempt at a catalogue of Baxter prints in 1893 and publishing his folio of reprints from Baxter's plates in 1894. He was also the secretary of the very first Baxter Print Society in 1895.

Having just uploaded some sale stock of prints from Mockler's Portfolio I thought I should write a little about him

Some sets of Baxter's needle box sets are harder to find than others. Possibly you have never seen Baxter's Figures and Landscapes set, so I have added full details to my prints listing with images of full sheets, on needle boxes and needle packet case + and also noted on my needle box prints page

Please read the details here

Le Blond & Co were also publishers?

A recent discovery lead us down this interesting route

When I am researching I sometimes get confused with who's who in Baxter's family, especially when I was working on the Snelling Archive (see above) so I prepared the attached to help me and also the reader to understand the context of the letters. I didn't want to make it too complicated so I have just added the main characters to start with - I can add others as the need arises

In the last newsletter I wrote about the most complete account of Baxter's travelling sales 1860 - 1863.

I can now review a rare poster from one of those sales - interesting information and a competition !
