The Nachan Project and New Offerings - November Edition

Pictured above: (Left) Nachan members delivering food in Katwe.

Hello, family. I hope this message finds each of you Happy, Peaceful, Safe and At Ease (as much as possible). Today, the United States surpassed more than 250,000 deaths due to the  Covid-19 virus. It has been an extraordinarily difficult time for many of us personally, locally and  globally. And in Uganda, recent protests and riots have erupted due to the arrest of opposition  leader Bobi Wine. Police killed 37 people.

It is my hope that throughout all of this, we are able to deepen our compassion not just for those close to us but for those far away. Whether through location or because of different  points of view.

I am writing to give an update on what your donations have done for the people of the Nachan Project. This is what compassionate action looks like.  Since my last newsletter, after which so many of you gave (deepest thanks and bows!!!)

We have been able to:

  • Feed and yes, help keep Alive approximately 500 people in the slums of Katwe, Kampala.
  • Provide continued education for Jonathan Olupo, 9, who came to us asking for help after he and his mother were one of the families whose homes had been razed.
  • Assist in providing and rebuilding shelter for the hundreds whose homes were destroyed.
  • Assist Alice B and her 18 year old daughter, in helping them relocate outside the slums as  they had been harassed by others to due her youngest daughter attempting to defend her  sister against her violent husband. Unfortunately, this resulted in the man’s death and the  imprisonment of her youngest daughter, age 16, and her daughter’s child.
  • Send Christine A. and her children home to Karamoja
  • Provide funeral expenses and transport for the body of Maria K who had been strangled in a conflict with other women in the slums. Tragically, Maria was 3 months pregnant. The 18 year  old woman who killed her is 8 months pregnant. Four lives have been destroyed.

Life in the slums can be and often is brutal. Every day I am thankful for a home. For a hot shower. For  food. For no one trying to kill me or rape me. Every Day. It is my vow to continue to do what I can for my sisters and their children in Uganda. Thank you for helping me help them.

We are Hopeful to continue to raise money for basic human needs and to provide training for the teen girls we rescued and resettled from sex trafficking. We are Hopeful to raise money so that I may continue to share MindBody Practices for Trauma and Resiliency with the women and children and so that I may continue training others in East Africa to do the same.

In the meantime I will be sharing the below offerings and workshops with humans who can join  via online portals.
