An Appeal...

One year after creating Waterbury MakerSphere, a 501(c)3 non-profit, we were hosting workshops in ceramics, woodworking, and photography, offering children’s classes and summer camps, adult classes, and participating in community events. Your support allowed us to offer student scholarships and to expand our offerings. When the pandemic hit, we shut down both MakerSphere locations and cancelled all planned programs. We moved existing children’s programs on-line and focused on supporting families.

One week after the Governor’s declaration of a state of emergency for Vermont, we asked the makers in our community to make reusable fabric masks. Our mask making venture brought together over 100 makers to sew masks for our local healthcare providers, essential workers, the community at large, and then for the children in our community. The almost 3,000 masks sewed, were provided at no cost to the recipients.

MakerSphere is slowly and safely reopening our sites on a limited basis, providing individual creative studios, virtual art clubs for children, and in-person ceramic memberships. We are reimagining the annual River of Light Lantern Parade (December 4-5, 2020) to safely include surrounding communities with social distancing and look forward to telling you more as the details unfold.

But right now, we need your help.

The dramatic drop in class enrollment has turned our budget upside down. With less enrollment comes less revenue. The crucial roles that makers and creative spaces play in our community are undeniable, and with your help, we will open up programs and facilities as soon as it is safe.

Your contribution will help MakerSphere continue our efforts to help people of all ages to build their creative skills in the arts, crafts and trades.

Your tax-deductible financial support is essential to help get MakerSphere through this downturn.

It will help in maintaining and keeping our current spaces, and programming affordable in procuring the tools needed to provide additional opportunities for our community to collaborate and grow.

We are dedicated to fostering creativity by providing educational opportunities and workspace for all ages.

Please help us keep our mission alive.

Your support is greatly appreciated,

John Bauer, President
