With Gratitude....
One of the best things about the (only!) six-month long Pollinator Anthology project is that it has given us an opportunity to connect with so many wonderful people and learn from and share their enthusiasm about pollinators and native plants in the gallery show, in the book, and in real life!
The wonderful two-month long Pollinator Anthology show at Catalyst Ashland Gallery closed on June 25. It was wonderful to have so many people be part of the events at the Gallery or visit on their own. If you didn't have a chance to catch the show, or just want to reminisce about some of the wonderful art that was there, click here to access links to each of the four events. Special thanks to Andres, Precious, Sam, and Sayre, for inviting the Anthology into their wonderful space, and for their steady support from beginning to end!
We want to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the amazing Eden Orlando and Rebeca Ramm who, back in January, visioned and actualized this Anthology project for us and with us; to the fabulous sponsors and donors who provided funding and/or in-kind product without hestitation so we could realize this dream; and of course, to the 65 wonderful contributors who generously shared their beautiful photos, paintings, poetry, sculpture, interactive art, stories, articles and even a song, about pollinators and native plants, activism, community events, and more. Their 350-plus contributions became the first-ever engaging and educational 312-page, full-color, The Rogue Valley Pollinator Anthology!
Finally, we are grateful to you, our supporters, because proceeds from the sale of this Anthology benefit Pollinator Project Rogue Valley, providing ongoing funding for our work to educate youth and adults about the importance of native pollinators and plants for our local ecology, all while growing and sharing seeds, plants, and gardens for the pollinators. Thank you.
~ Kristina Lefever, President

Looking & Learning: A Pollinator Adventure
on Mt. Ashland
We had the best time during this fun and educational event on Mt. Ashland last month! Many thanks to Travis Owen, The Amateur Anthecologist, for leading the hike, and to Katelyn Detweiler of the Native Plant Society of Oregon, Siskiyou Chapter, for sharing her plant knowledge - and for admitting she was getting jazzed about "bugs"! We all agreed we learned a lot! Enjoy our photo album from the day here!

We had such a great time with the Boys and Girls Clubs of The Rogue Valley at Applegate River Lavender a few weeks ago! Thank you, Marcy Rustad, for the invitation and to the Club Members for their enthusiastic response! Glad to have PPRV volunteer Sebastian Melrose along - the queen bee fell in love with him! What a beautiful place for talking pollinators and catching bees! Enjoy our photo album from the day here!

(2) Pollinators' Pick!
1) If you have been following us for awhile, you have probably seen more than a few articles about one of our favorite plants, Grindelia nana, or Idaho gumweed. What's not to love? Super drought tolerant, evergreen, continual beautiful bright yellow flowers from early summer to early winter, a food source for numerous pollinator species, smells wonderful, has unique seed pods for garden design and/or bouquets, sparkles (literally) like no other native plant, and is an easy plant to share with your neighbors! OK, the weed in the name is accurate, but it's an easy plant to control - if you wish!
Here's another reason to love this plant - it is not just the pollen and nectar that is so beneficial. The flowers themselves are food, as is the seed. Which is a good thing, considering how prolific this plant is in producing both! Check out the photo below of a big juicy caterpillar we discovered in our garden, eating the flowers and finding a place to pupate and overwinter, to emerge next year. Unless of course a bird or a lizard finds the caterpillar first! Click here to see our photo album and learn more about GRNA as an important host plant for our local ecosystem.
2) Gratitude to Wanda Borland for sharing this lovely video of our garden in Phoenix in early July. "The garden is a pollinator's heaven .... full of life and activity." Now that the summer has moved on, especially with the heat, even we admit the garden is not quite this gorgeous.
