THE LEARNING CORNER

"EILEEN, I'VE BEEN READING YOUR NEWSLETTER FOR MONTHS, AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU DO."

I get that a lot.

From family, friends, colleagues.  I'm an enigma.

But thanks to my wonderful colleague, Joseph Chu of Assisted Living Locators, the mystery will soon be solved!  Joe has created a YouTube channel called "Assisted Living Answer Man" that I've previously profiled in this column.  Well, now I'm part of the Assisting Living video family, joining the illustrious ranks of elder-law attorneys, daily money

managers, and personal-property appraisers who have made their screen debuts on Joe's channel.  My first video with Joe is out and can be viewed here.  Keep an eye out for additional episodes over the coming months.

Anticipating the two questions I often get after someone views this video, I will tell you that:

1. Yes, I realize that I talk with my hands.

2. No, I am NOT wearing a see-through blouse in the video.

I also recently had the opportunity to serve as one of three lucky speakers at NERCPO, a regional conference for professional organizers in Stamford, CT (photo below).

And yes, I used my hands a lot in that presentation as well, and no, my blouse is not see-through... just the arms.

CRAFT BEER CORNER:

DOGFISH HEAD, BIG OYSTER

Where: Rehoboth Beach and environs, Delaware

Why: Our 9th wedding anniversary

When: Late October 2019

How: Via car and the Cape May-Lewes ferry

When life is busy and you only have two full days to get away for your anniversary, you're limited to locales with good food and drink that are located within easy driving distance.  For prior anniversaries, we've done Cape May, NJ; Watkins Glen, NY; Mystic, CT; and New Hope, PA -- all enjoyable.  Where to for 2019?

Enter the forgotten state of Delaware.  We had heard from numerous friends and relatives about the many culinary offerings available in the Rehoboth Beach area, so we booked a motel room and the round-trip ferry.  The ferry ride from Cape May, NJ to Lewes, DE was a fun way to shave off an hour of driving.  Upon guiding our vehicle off the ferry in Lewes,

we encountered our first point of interest: Big Oyster Brewery.  Eddie and I both chose a flight of 4 brews, and I quickly found my favorite, Shades of Black, a blackberry sour that had no pucker and all flavor.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Big Oyster as well, picked up a four-pack of Shades, and headed off to our motel.

After exploring downtown Rehoboth and strolling the boardwalk that afternoon and evening, we spent the next day making reconnaissance visits to outlying towns suggested by locals, including quaint Milford.  While enjoying coffee, pastry, and conversation at the center-of-the-action coffee shop in downtown Milford, we learned that we were only a short drive from Milton, home to the renowned Dogfish Head Brewery.  So off we went... and proceeded to spend the next 4 hours exploring the grounds, brewery, distillery, picnic area, and gift shop that make up the now-massive Dogfish Head complex.  Of course, we each tried a flight, enjoyed lunch, and took a surprisingly detailed tour about the brewing process.  Thanks to a recent distribution partnership with Sam Adams, Dogfish Head brews will soon be available throughout the continental U.S.  (But I still recommend a visit to Milton!)
