We found our home!

I know, I can't believe it! After over a dozen house tours all over North and South Carolina, we found a home that is the perfect place for us. We are so grateful for every step of the way. But man, buying a house is complicated, people. There's so many ups and downs and things that go wrong. And then there's also many things that go right. This month, it's just been one foot in front of the other.

What I've Been Learning Lately

  • House hunting is NO JOKE. The good homes go as fast as they do in North Carolina as they do in California. Like off the market in 1 day fast.
  • Everything takes time. Patience required.
  • The day you're looking forward to will come. Time might just feel really slow until you get there, and then it feels like it flew by.
  • Fill the in-between time with things that bring happiness and little joys, like baking bread, watching videos of other people doing things you like, making a flower bouquet, and meeting new neighbors.
  • Silence is often the best (and most necessary) medicine during chaos.
  • Strawberries will grow EVERYWHERE, if allowed to, like a weed. A very, very, good weed.
  • Poison ivy isn't super fun. It also grows in NC, like a lot.
  • Use essential oils and loud noises to ward off carpenter bees from eating your house.

Photos of Our New Farm

This is the view from the corner edge of our property. The yellow irises are showing off in full bloom along with all the gorgeous trees. The land has already changed and grown so much since we first saw it.

Thank you Spring, rain & sunshine!

Making my very first bouquet out of our very own peonies, greenery, and other lovely flowers that I don't know the names of.

This is one of our peaches. They've doubled in size in the last month! I can't wait to eat juicy peaches by the end of the summer & make all the things out of it. Peach cobbler, peach preserves, Grilled peaches.... Yumm, Bring it on.

In addition to the 5 deer we saw grazing in the early morning and the little white cat that we spotted running through the berry garden, this little frog escaped from the pond and hopped up near our garage. We safely returned him back to where he belonged. We are slowly making furry (and slimy) friends here. More to come.

This is one of the irises that sits outside our bay window in our dining room. The rain crowned it with gorgeous little droplets and I couldn't resist a photo!

And finally... a short video of our water wheel overlooking the pond and lower pastures.
