september newsletter

Welcome to equity arcata’s first Welcoming Businesses Newsletter!

equity arcata’s teams aim to create a welcoming, safe and racially equitable community. Our members are working to eliminate racial disparities for all people of color in housing, health, education and employment. Welcoming Businesses is a huge part of this work!

We Want to Help Your Business!

Is your business reaching its full potential regarding the diverse segments of our community?

We want to help our local businesses succeed at engaging community members of color as employees and customers.

One of the goals of equity arcata's Welcoming Businesses initiative is to establish partnerships with local business owners to spread awareness about the benefits of racial equity training and policies in the workplace. We’re also developing long-term goals to increase the involvement of people of color in Arcata’s business community.

With these goals in mind, we've put together a series of informative newsletters with tools you can utilize as guides for your business.

Our next newsletter will discuss how racial equity in the workplace can affect employee satisfaction and retention. We look forward to sharing more on this topic with you!

How Can I Get Involved as a Business Owner?

We're working on hosting short, fun  and informative gatherings with business owners to give you the opportunity to network and discuss racial equity topics in a relaxed setting.

If you're a business owner who'd like to host a gathering or a racial equity training, please contact us.

Volunteer with Us!

Our Welcoming Businesses Committee meetings are held once a month for about 2 hours (or less)!

Our committee is responsible for determining the direction and implementation of our business learning programs, as well as encouraging other local businesses to participate in racially equitable business practices. All Arcata business owners or their representatives are invited to attend.

Our next Home Away From Home Potluck is Sunday, September 8 from 5 to 7pm at the D Street Neighborhood Center. In the spirit of camaraderie and goodwill, the Home Away From Home Potluck is equity arcata’s community-building event created to act as a bridge between students, local businesses and members of the community. College students are invited to enjoy a free meal, receive information about jobs and housing, help themselves to donated items from the “Free Stuff Table” and participate in a free raffle sponsored by local businesses.

Please contact us if you'd like to make a donation on behalf of your business.
