Join us to celebrate Refugee Week 2023!

This year for Refugee Week we're celebrating

The Colours of Greenwich, a project funded

The National Lottery Heritage Fund,

on Friday 23rd June at The Tramshed.

 

Our group has been sharing migration stories and looking at how we can tell our own histories in a variety of creative ways.

 

We would love you to come and celebrate with us as we explore the theme of compassion through history.

What's Been Happening

We've been having a lot of fun with Luca Silvestrini's Protein dance group in this short dance project, which we hope to find a way to continue!

 

We've been developing dance stories with the themes of migration and change, and feelings of being in between two places, being in between two cultures.

 

"So so happy to be in this dancing session, creating relaxation, comfort, happiness, joy,

cheerful mood, connection with others, very good. Contact eye to eye and also smiles. I like the movement of body and the communication of ideas is excellent."

Join us at Woolwich Works for Luca Silvestrini's Protein's free, annual event for Refugee Week on Saturday 24th June. We'll be celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees, migrants and people seeking sanctuary.

We had our first Be Well Hub meeting as part of Greenwich and Lewisham Be Well Hubs.

 

This is an incredible initiative to create safe spaces for local people to turn to when they feel their mental health is low or simply to feel more connected with their local community. The idea is that nobody should be more than 10 minutes away from being connected to someone who can help them.

 

We are so pleased to be a part of it. We are stronger together and hope to be even more powerful working together across the two boroughs. We left the meeting feeling inspired, encouraged, energised and wanting to meet again.

Chief Operating Officer, Greenwich NHS South East London, South East London Integrated Care System, for inviting us to play out our Forum Theatre performance at the Greenwich Wide Forum, which was attended by over 40 NHS staff from across all Greenwich GPs.

 

Thanks to the support from University of Greenwich, we've been developing scenes as part of our Safe Surgeries work to make GP Practices in Greenwich safe and accessible for all, regardless of migration status.

 

Forum theatre is a fantastic tool to explore different scenarios and find solutions together. We hope to have more opportunities to work alongside medical professionals in Greenwich to create long-lasting change.

What We've Got Coming Up

Starting on 8th June, Mums' Voices is a series of workshops for migrant women who are pregnant or new mums, in partnership with South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System.

 

This project aims to improve NHS maternity services for migrants through creatively exploring our experiences to find solutions to the challenges.

 

We will use forum theatre, dance, and other arts to look deeper into how maternity services in Greenwich could be made better for migrant women.
