For one of my favorite Halloweens, we did an "I Dream of Genie" theme as a family. My daughter was not quite two. Despite the autumn nip in the air and her delicate genie costume, she loved gallivanting around our neighborhood circle with her astronaut dad, collecting goodies from our doting neighbors. When it clicked in her toddler mind what Halloween was all about, she shook off her shivers and dragged her dad around the block a second time! |

Tip of the Month The media may approach you for an interview on a medical study. There are eight types of studies you might be asked about: Therapy Screening Causation Diagnosis Economic analysis Prognosis Quality of Care Review
In the coming months, I will go over questions you should ask yourself as you review the article ahead of your interview. ~~~ For this month, let's say you've been asked to comment on a journal article regarding diagnostic testing. How would you prepare?
As you review the article, ask yourself these questions: Was the diagnostic test compared with a gold standard? Is the test reproducible? Was there enough variation of disease in the patients tested? How were they referred for testing? What does the diagnostic test contribute to the testing toolbox for that disease?
Next month, I’ll go over questions to ask yourself when preparing for an interview on an economic analysis article. Stay tuned! |

Ask Me Anything This month's question comes from Dr. S.S.: I can really use speaker training but where can I find TIME??? I get this question a lot. As a doc, I know you have a kazillion things to do between your practice and your family. I get it! Your time is scarce and valuable! Here are some things I do to make it work for YOU: Courses are at 8:30 p.m. eastern, after the workday is over all across the continental U.S. One-on-one coaching is available, if that works out better with your schedule. My forthcoming book, Scoop, M.D., is something you can read on your own time. (However, I highly recommend combining the book with practice! Happy to help with that.) Stay tuned for book updates.
Thanks for your question, Dr. S.S.! | | |
