With sadness in our hearts are letting you know that OMC co-founder, and supporter Bob Marcus passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2022. We grieve with his wife Johanna and all who knew and loved him. Bob had an amazing career in science, and this was reflected in everything he did after his retirement as an amazingly talented sculptor, viola enthusiast, co-founder Open Mic Classical, and as a member of a humanist group on Cape Cod, just to mention a few. One of Bob’s sculptures is in the garden of the UU Church Brewster, and he also sculpted the chalice hanging in the Brewster UU Church. Condolences and flowers may be sent to Johanna Marcus c/o Maplewood at 820 Harwich Road, Brewster, MA 02631. If you visit Johanna, visits for 5-10 minutes at a time are suggested by his family not to overwhelm her. |

Flutist Carl Gutowski - from Open Mic Classical to Carnegie Hall and back to Open Mic Classical May 15th, 2022, once again, to delight us, and amaze us with the variety of pieces and styles, fresh like our Cape Cod Spring. Carl also introduced us to pianist Toshiko Jones, who is a wonderful collaborative pianist from NY City. They gave us an unforgettable performance, and standing ovation if you can imagine that at an online Zoom event. (carlgutowski.com) |

Thank you Carl for playing a tribute piece for Bob Marcus, our co-founder. It could not have been more fitting, "Suite the Ballet" by composer Vaughn Williams, as Bob's sculptures reflected his love for dancing. |

Mónika Veress, clarinetist and co-founder OMC, played a tribute piece in memory of Bob Marcus who she will miss not only as a partner she worked with to bring you Open Mic Classical with, but also as a friend they have become over the past nine years. 16 years old Tony Santos, student of Sylvia Karkus Furash, amazed us with two piano pieces. Bach's Italian Concerto BWV 971 ii and Schumann's Papillons -Op. 7 Intro, #1,2,3,4,5 Finale. Tony presented the pieces with great confidence, and played them with sensibility ahead of his years. Thank you Tony for representing the youth on the Cape Cod classical music scene. Gives us hope this Cape Cod Spring. |

Open Mic Classical, May 15th, 2022 inspired a playful little poem. A poet blown away by the amazing talent, and inspired by the music, what a special treat to us. Thank you. |

Open Mic Classical was co-founded by clarinetist Mónika Woods (winner of the Cape Symphony's 2013 New England Concerto the "Soloist" Competition) and amateur violist and sculptor Robert Marcus. Their work would not be possible without secretary Elizabeth Tipton, Treasurer Vicki Longo, Former Community Outreach Ellen Adamson, and our great list of collaborative pianists: Lucy Banner, Elizabeth Tipton, Sylvia Karkus Furash, Ana Glig, Ben Healy, and our volunteers Barb Lambdin, Felice Coral, and our valued public, and donors.
