A Note from the Camp Director: Seth Kannarr New Beginnings |
Alumni and Friends of Canyon Camp,
The summer of 2022 is brings new beginnings. Assistant Camp Director Alex Kloepping, Program Director Adam Swisher, and I are very excited to welcome in a full Canyon Camp Staff as we serve more than 1,000 Scouts and Scouters this summer as they come through our front gates! |
With new merit badges, an updated OWL program, and a new Hammock Hangout area, we hope that you are able to visit us to "Try Something New in '22!" Alumni and friends are encouraged to join us for Visitor's Night on Wednesdays this summer (June 22, 29; July 6, 13, 20) to get your fill of the Spirit of Canyon Camp and to see what's all happening at camp. Canyon Camp is a second home that provides a sense of place like no other. Where else can you find the "spirit" that is contagious in the way we do along the banks of Coon Creek? I was a Scout at Canyon Camp from 2009 to 2011, and have served on the Canyon Camp Staff since 2012. This past decade has been a journey of fun memories, personal growth, and building friendships that will last a lifetime. |

The many staff members, directors, and volunteers before us have left behind huge shoes, but we are eager to tackle this summer to the best of our ability with support from you all. |

Canyon Camp is full of rich traditions and history, and we fully intend to ensure that Scouts will continue to enjoy the legacy that has been built by the previous 85 years. I am here to help carry the torch and serve Canyon Camp in whatever capacity is necessary as we make the transition from the "old guard" to the new generation. This summer will be a great opportunity for this, as well as a plethora of skits, songs, and campfires along the way! In the meantime, we have some exciting events happening at Canyon Camp prior to our five weeks of Scouts BSA camping and one weekend of Webelos overnight camp. Please bring your talents and time to the Monroe Kiwanis Work Weekend on Saturday, May 7th, or join us for a weekend of fellowship and service at the Wulapeju Lodge Spring Fellowship from June 3rd-5th. Canyon Camp is successful each summer in part due to the strength of our community, so thank you all for being part of our amazing community! This past year has been turbulent in many facets, from accommodating COVID-19 guidelines last summer to the fallout from the BSA bankruptcy case last July, we faced these mountains and overcame them. Although our situation has had its difficulties, I know that bright times are ahead for us at Canyon Camp. We will continue to adapt and overcome so that we may provide the best summer camp experience possible and continue to work each day for "The Little Scout That Follows Me!" Please know that you are welcome to reach out to us at Canyon Camp at any time. Your support is essential - thank you for all that you do! In the Spirit, Seth Kannarr Camp Director |

A note from the folks behind the newsletter: In closing this year's spring newsletter, we ask that you take a moment to reach out to a camp friend. Send a note, make a call, or share a prayer. This last year has been full of ups and downs both at, and beyond, Canyon Camp. Some of our closest friends and mentors may appreciate hearing from you more than you may realize. The Spirit shared at Camp- from moments years ago, last summer at the reunion, or during nfuture adventures- does not need to be held only at Camp. We could all use some positive camp Spirit from time to time to get us through the daily work grind, personal health needs, or other obstacles in front of us, and we can all share that Spirit during the exciting moments of new kiddos, engagements, and more! Share the Spirit.
Thanks for reading, and we look forward to seeing you at Camp soon! |
