EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED AT THE FORT!
Quite often when people ask me about what I do, they ask about what they would expect if they attended one of our events. All I can say is "expect the unexpected". Spirits can do something once and never do it again, some things they can do over and over again. Certain spirits will interact with us many times, and some will interact with us just once. We cannot control the spirits, so they dictate the evenings.
However, I can relay past experiences that our guests have with the caveat that they always seem to surprise us. I can honestly say that there has never been an event where absolutely nothing has happened. Most of our events have been active, and some nights are less so - but we've been blessed to have amazing locations that invite us in where spirits are usually cooperative. Even on those rare quiet nights, we tend to have a lot of fun and the time flies!
So what have we experienced at the Fort during our investigations? Short answer - a lot of amazing experiences throughout our events there.
Here's a brief list of what we have experienced:
Unexplained lights: Some nights, the fort is truly remarkable in the number of unexplained bright lights throughout the structure. Lights are seen in areas where the public cannot enter both within the structure and in the large quadrangle.
Pebbles thrown at guests: This has been a claim for years at the fort, and we had two guests hit lightly with very small pebbles. Why is this significant? One of the infamous murders to take place at the fort happened immediately after one soldier jokingly threw small pebbles at another soldier.
Guests getting touched: We ran into a mischievous child who was having fun touching guests in the former powder magazine. One of our friends from the fort who accompany us was stunned when a phantom hand touched her shoulder near the tunnels.
Shadow figures: On our last investigation at the fort, guests were shocked by three shadow figures moving in the area behind the former bowling alley. More shocking were the shadow figures in the former latrine (and a very funny response on the Phasmabox).
Intelligent responses: Through the Estes experiment and the Phasmabox we continue to receive very relevant responses to our questions. The soldiers can be a bit unfiltered though. Our events are family-friendly, but every once in a while, the soldiers don't use their filter. We have heard from some of the many people we highlight in our presentation before the active investigation.
Residual energy: Since the structure is made from stone and with crashing waves outside, the area is ripe for residual energy. Residual energy is sometimes the most surprising. On one investigation, our group was stunned by the sound of a phantom typewriter in one of the rooms. If you pay attention, you may see or hear something truly phenomenal. A guest claimed to hear the sounds of gunfire in one of the areas used as a firing range. On one investigation, guests had an odd metallic taste in their mouths when we were in the former medic space. Strange smells of tobacco can be experienced from time to time as well.
Objects moving: One of our props (a teddy bear) that was securely placed down tipped over in an odd manner when we were investigating an area known for spirits of children being present. It didn't just tip over, it was as if a child wanted our attention.
Tunnel mayhem: One of my favorite moments occurred in the tunnel system. I had heard a vocalization from the tunnel about 20-30 feet in front of me. The guest immediately behind me heard it as well. My flashlight proved that nothing would explain the noise, as I stepped closer I heard the sound of someone running off, only problem is there was no one there.
While this is just the tip of the iceberg in what we have experienced, an investigation at Fort Adams is special for several more reasons. You get to look up and experience a beautiful night sky as you walk from one location to another - we have seen our share of 'shooting stars' while there. You will get to explore areas of the fort with us that are not even open during the public tours, and we'll end the night by giving you a very unique and beautiful view of Newport in the midnight hour. Have your cameras ready for that one!
