March begins with Read Across America Day. It is observed annually on Dr. Seuss' birthday. It's another great reminder that reading is not only important, but also fun! Don't forget to stop, drop (into a comfy chair) and read on March 2! |

On February 11, I had the pleasure of visiting Asheboro Public Library for a special story time event. Little ones gathered around as I read the first two chapters of Society of the Sentinelia. |
After the reading, the children's librarian led everyone in a craft activity. Each child made a scraebin-sized friend to take home. It was so much fun to watch as they transformed large craft clothespins into woodland creatures who may or may not be fairies! |
When I do local or virtual library events, it's free as long as the book is currently in the library's collection! |

This one is so relatable, I snorted coffee out of my nose when I first saw it. Rather than let folks fester under the delusion that I'm weird, I've always found it best to simply divulge that I'm a writer! |

One would think writing a 5-book middle grade series, teaching, and attending graduate school would be more than enough to keep one busy. Ha! Plot twist. I was recently introduced to an agent through a writing friend and colleague. |
A wonderful virtual meeting with her agent led to a request for a manuscript. I'm taking some time to dust off old picture book drafts and ideas, then update and polish them. In a few weeks, I'll submit the formal query and manuscript. [Insert cliffhanger.] We'll see what happens! |

Zahra loves clover. And it's starting to bloom near the Birkhead Wilderness where she lives. Her fun fact has to do with those blooms. Did you know, the Carolina Clover bloom is considered "papilionaceous"? That means it resembles a butterfly! |

We didn't have much of a winter in Central NC. Now we're transitioning from fall to spring. We know this because the rain is yellow. Our cars are yellow. We're sneezing yellow dust. Pollen is everywhere, well ahead of the Spring Solstice. |
While it's a nuisance, I don't mind the pollen. Unlike most of my family members, I'm not badly affected by allergies (they can't stand that about me). Meanwhile, I love watching everything bloom. The earliest of blooms in our yard are purple crocuses, yellow daffodils, and my favorite, red camellias. I love how Mother Nature wakes up with a flair, dabbing bright colors all over the drab winter landscape as she leads us proudly into spring. |
