MAKING US COMPLETE - THE ADVENT WEEK OF PEACE

By Deacon Timothy Yeo

A sense of nostalgia filled my heart this week as I stepped into the choir practice and picked up the scores for the 65th anniversary celebrations. It has easily been 5 years since I’ve looked at choral scores and 20 years since I was actively singing in a choir, yet the familiar memories of Christmas carols and acapella music came alive in me. I went back after the practice and opened up YouTube to listen to Handel’s Messiah just to feel reconnected again to my choral roots.

Isaiah 9:6 reads “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

The song and verse both have the phrase ‘Prince of Peace’. In this second week of Advent, as a reflection, ask yourself, “What does peace mean to you?”..........

GOOD NEIGHBOURS x CHRISTMAS 2022

Missed out on our Good Neighbours initiatives over the past year? Come join us this Christmas to bring the love of Jesus to the last, lost and least!

#1 Kopi with Migrant Brothers: Christmas Edition

Since July 2022, a team of volunteers have befriended a regular group of migrant workers at Kranji Recreation Centre through bi-monthly visits. Over coffee and vadais, and sometimes a game of carrom or foosball, we have built relationships with these brothers who now look forward to our kopi sessions.

This Christmas, we welcome all with a heart for these brothers to join our Christmas kopi session –

11 December 2022 (Sunday), 4-6pm

Kranji Recreation Centre, 11 Kranji Close

Programme: food, simple games, and a short sharing of the Christmas message

Sign up here by 4 December 2022.

#2 Adopt-A-Family

Since December 2021, we have “adopted” almost 20 low-income families in West Coast. Through monthly visitations, volunteers have been able to forge relationships and extend care to these families beyond providing grocery vouchers. In the year ahead, we hope to expand our reach to up to 30 families – God-willing!

For CGs, families, or friends looking to do outreach together, this is a wonderful platform for you to begin!

January-June 2023 (6-month commitment)

Monthly visitations to a family in West Coast

Sign up here by 4 December 2022.

#3 Loving Gladiolus

Since May 2022, a group from the Ladies Ministry have conducted monthly baking/connection sessions with the girls at Gladiolus Place (GP) – a non-profit Christian residential refuge for at-risk teenage girls (13-18 years). This Christmas, some young adults will bring the girls for a Christmas Picnic at West Coast Park on 24 December 2022, 10am-2pm. Please pray along with us!

For ladies who wish to join the monthly connection sessions in 2023 (on an ad-hoc or regular basis), please sign up here by 4 December 2022.

For the wider congregation’s participation, we hope you will consider partnering us in loving GP by meeting their practical needs:

  • Sponsor-A-Girl – Fund the everyday needs of the GP girls, including meals, pocket money, daily necessities and therapeutic interventions.

  • Sponsor GP’s renovation – Contribute to funding the much-needed renovation of GP’s home at Mattar Road – from sunken grounds, to cracks on the wall and broken window panels. Your support will go towards building a safe sanctuary for the girls.

Click here for detailed instructions on how to sponsor.

For more information, please contact Yi Ling (yiling@biblechurch.sg) or Jiahui (jiahui@biblechurch.sg).

FOLLOWING JESUS TESTIMONIES

We have asked various worshippers what they have gleaned from the pulpit series, with a guiding question:

"How have you been instructed or inspired to follow Jesus more closely or faithfully this year?"

Click on the button below and be encouraged by the sharing from fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

And if you would also like to share your journey with us, click HERE!

Testimonies

FOLLOWING JESUS TO SHARE

As disciples of Christ, we follow not only Jesus’ footsteps but also his strategy in reaching out to the lost. Jesus' mission on earth is clear. He came to save the lost. He ate with them and had many conversations with them. In August, the church launched the SHARE CAMPAIGN to encourage all of us to follow in our Lord Jesus' footsteps to reach the lost. We are encouraged to:

1. SHARE a MEAL

2. SHARE a MESSAGE

3. SHARE a MEANINGFUL meeting

A small Group Christmas Party at the end of the year is one of the meaningful meetings that we are encouraging CGs to organise and invite their friends to join too. Programs and briefing will be provided to help you plan these parties.

To help in the planning of these parties, please click here to access briefing and training videos that you & your small groups can watch together to get started.

• Skills necessary for relationships to grow (how to listen, express feelings and resolve conflicts) and how to make each other feel loved and respected

• Developing emotional and sexual intimacy (in marriage)

• Sharing life's journey through goals, values and dreams

The course is designed so that couples will have ample opportunities to discuss and dialogue, as a couple, on critical issues regarding marriage, with the couple’s privacy respected. This course is compulsory for members who are planning to have their marriage solemnized by the Church* in 2023/2024, and is also suitable for pre-Christians. Your friends are welcome to join the course.

Every couple who are planning to have their marriage solemnized by the Church will be paired with a marriage counsellor for at least 4 sessions to go through the Prepare and Enrich assessment tool (USD35 per couple) as well as a marriage mentor couple to walk with them through the first year of marriage.
