Spring 2023

As Spring winds down and we head towards summer it’s a good time to reflect on our accomplishments and look towards our future goals.

As I’ve said many times, it’s been ten years since a Democrat was elected to any position in town government. One party rule hasn’t been healthy for Stony Point. New ideas and new voices have been shut out. Decisions that effect us all are made by a few insiders with little or no input from residents.

We’ve been working vigorously to revitalize our committee over this past year. We’ve welcomed new friends while solidifying old connections all with the goal of providing Democrats like you with a strong base to share your ideas and to eventually break the grip that one party has had on our community.

Working together we can make Stony Point a more collaborative, vibrant and prosperous community!

Champlain Hudson Power Express

(CHPE)

CHPE is a 339 mile power line bringing hydroelectic power from Canada to NYC. 60% of the line will be located in the Hudson River and 40% will be buried on land. Initial plans are for the line to leave the river in Tomkins Cove and travel along 9W to Valley Cottage.

The Town of Stony Point will receive $5,300,000 in two installments of $2,650,000 each in recognition that the routing and project will cause temporary disruption and inconvenience to the citizens and businesses of Stony Point. The company will also make a streetscape payment to the Town in the total amount of $2,914,286 in three annual installments. When the construction is completed the PILOT agreement below goes into effect.

On or about June 15th CHPE intends to begin site preparation and construction on the Stony Point Transitional Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD). In addition to the HDD itself, CHPE will construct a temporary laydown yard in Tomkins Cove to be utilized for construction staging, marshalling and storage to support work.Where nightime work is needed such as for the HDD which requires continuous operation, noise mitigation measures will be employed.

Paper copies of the construction plans are available at the Tomkins Cove Public Library and the Rose Memorial Library.

CHPE is slated for completion in 2025.
